here we go again and cutting him is kinda dumb since his contract is 100% guaranteed

Re: Goodbye Ellerbe!

I don't understand that move? We aren't saving any money and you will get at least 8 games out of him. This just doesn't make any sense to me...If we were saving 1/2 of the money in his contract I'd be like okay makes sense...but not getting it

Re: Goodbye Ellerbe!

We're saving $3-4 million.

Edit: $3.2 million

Ellerbe is a beast when healthy. Such a shame that he never is. Time for a youth movement.

Injured far too often, good move. Thanks for everything Ellerbe, time for the young guys to step up.

Yep..when I seen he was already on PUP and training camp hasn't even started, he has got to go. Good luck, thanks for the.....few games I guess.

Can't say that I'm surprised. Age and health otherwise he could ball. Can't make the club in the tub! Care there well.

It opens up a spot for someone who hopefully doesn't have an assigned spot in the medical center's parking lot.

Lol. He's great when he plays. Unfortunately, thats rare. He won't be missed much because he didn't play enough to be a consistent and reliable contributor.

This further explains Michael Mauti. This opens the roster spot.

Nolan must like what he's seeing from our newcomers.

Ellerbe you had moments but were never there when it counted most. Wish you the best in Detroit.

Not sure if thats 100% the reason, or we're just tired of the injuries and expect Nolan to make chicken salad with what he has that isn't always injured.

And like you inferred, maybe the front office thinks Nolan has enough chicken in the fridge to make a pretty damn good salad. Especially since he's the best LB cook we've had in 2 decades.

I wish he could have stayed healthy. I think this hurt the D. Ellerbes presence was felt by the D when he was on the field.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well.

I wonder if Ellerbe is going to retire after the cut..?

I doubt he will retire. He will go somewhere else and give them 6-8 games a year. I think it is smart to do before camp especially since I was wrong in thinking we weren't saving any money. We are so it is a smart move.Doesn't cost us much to cut him. Let the guys that are going to be here battle it out. I am interested in what Bighill has to offer. Maybe now that Anthony is back healthy he starts to put it together. Should be interesting. I like Anzalone a lot too.

Shoot. Well at least we got one last good stretch out of him last year; without him we probably would have took 2+ more losses.

Heard he came to camp fat(ter) as well. When he was on the field, our winning percentage went up drastically (similar to jabari greer stats if I remember correct). Shame he couldn't, though. And, that's what we need most so good riddance.

With a bad foot I can understand added weight.

I don't since adding or shedding weight has so much more to do with diet than running or lifting. How an NFL player can't keep weight with all the tools they have at their disposal just baffles me.

Keeping weight off has a ton to do with the feet. You have to burn calories. Unless you swim the next two best avenues of burning those calories are running and biking and both require healthy feet. Diet alone won't do it. I know. I lost 50 pounds since last June and walking 5-6 miles per day was the key. Yes, diet is important, but I have never been able to do it until the exercise.

When is that exactly?

Tough, but Good Move. Totally agree with you on his talent, but does the rest of the team's success get put on hold waiting for him to get on the field?

Know this is personal for him, but these decisions are long overdue...

We gotta fire now in the Front Office again!

It has to do with both. Diet is soooooooooo important. Next resistance training or lifting weights is far superior to just cardio. You should do both for health, however. Resistance training is better because it burns more calories when at rest. Next, cardio is best done in short bursts or circuit training where you're on and then off, on and then off. Sprints are a great. Lastly, jumping, squatting, etc are far superior to long distance cardio.Jump rope, man God I love jumping rope. Long distance cardio would be the last thing you'd want to do.

Now clearly I am not talking about people who run marathons, but no need to run 4-5 miles. It is less effective than what I talked about above.

For how your body looks, though, it is diet diet diet diet diet diet diet diet diet. Especially the older you get. Unless you're a 20 year old Olympic champion swimmer, diet diet diet diet diet diet diet.

You are correct, Cru.

If you are purely burning calories, interval cardio training isn't the right choice. For calorie burning one should engage in cardio activity where your constant heart BPM stays in "zone 2" since that is where the average human body transforms the highest percentage of fat into energy.

Resistance and weight training is the key though as you stated due to the fat burning effect it provides under rest and the overall metabolic effects it has on one's body.

Interval cardio is for those who want to improve their cardiovascular stamina and capabilities along with potentially maximizing their VO2max values.

Here is one study I found. Although I am sure you might be able to find some to support your position too, lol. This is actually pretty interesting. You know what I was thinking also was most interval training includes jumping and squats, etc, and that builds or works muscles differently then long distance running.

Is Running Long Distance or Interval Running Better for Losing Weight? | LIVESTRONG.COM

Here is a read that supports both and does away with some claims in the article above.

https://experiencelife.com/article/s...rval-training/

It is very interesting topic. I am sticking with interval training and resistance. Those work best for me in terms of how my body looks, weight loss, and improved cardio.

I could see putting in like 3 mile jogs twice a week or something as well.

Thanks for adding to the conversation. I like this topic so if you have any articles or good reads please share.

Re: Goodbye Ellerbe!

It is true that what works for some might not work for others. The variation in metabolism and body composition is wide among humans, so there naturally are studies that support both sides of this debate and also refute them both.

I personally believe in zone 2 cardio for maximizing fat burn, which translates to something around 130-140 BPM. I don't think running or jogging is the best way to get that cardio, but rather I'd do cardio circuit training with a lot of variation, while keeping that BPM closely within the target zone.

I think that a huge misconception that is widely held, is that you have to be huffing and buffing while sweating buckets full of misery in order to lose weight. Controlled cardio to maximize fat burn along with weight training while maintaining a diet that is customized for your needs, and a good sleeping schedule are the perfect mix for fat loss.

And you can't forget your overall happiness, since the mental side is many times the difference between either achieving your fitness goals or failing and giving up.

Sorry no articles to share on the go...
