ESPN: Howard to Dallas
 

Darren Howard is heading to Dallas, according to his agent.

Gary Wichard, Howard's agent, confirmed to ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys have "come to an agreement on Howard." Neither the Saints or Cowboys would confirm the deal, but the Cowboys have announced a press conference for tomorrow morning. Wichard reported that Howard was already in Dallas home shopping.

"We have been working on this deal for some time now," told Mort. "Darren is exicted about the opportunity to play in Dallas."

Wichard would not confirm the details of Howard's contract, but it was rumored earlier this offseason that Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, had agreed in principle to give Howard a contract similar to the six-year $33 million deal that the Seahawks gave Grant Winstrom last season.

The sticking point on the deal has been the New Orleans Saints, who have been suposedly holding out for a second round draft pick in the 2005 draft, as well as a player. Rumors swirled earlier last month that the Cowboys might send Dat Nguyen to the Saints in a trade for Howard. Word out of the Dallas camp today is that the trade will send Howard to the Cowboys in return for a third round pick in the 2006 draft.

Though Mickey Loomis, New Orleans' GM, could not be reached for comment, one Saint insider was quoted as saying, "Mickey is pleased with the deal. We got about all we could get for Darren and we free up space [under the cap]."

This was kind of suspect...should have known. Loomis or any other insider would\'ve never said \"we got about all we could get for Darren\". Shows weakness.

Danno, the long standing Optimism Coordinator, advised there was no truth to the rumor and that even the village idiot would know the only over-priced player the Saints would remotely entertain a 3rd rounder for is the often over-hyped stat padding QB Aaron Brooks.
