Is OL Orlando Franklin related to the WR Clifford Franklin?

Good move to help beef up the O-line.

The info I think is missing from that article is why the Chargers released him? Injury? Cap savings? Poor play?

Franklin has experience at right tackle and left guard, but at this point, anyone with experience can help Saints in practice.

He missed 5 games in 2015 and 1 in 2013. 29 years old so should still have something to give. Not sure how many sacks allowed.

So just for the heck of it... Here's Walter Football's take on the Franklin signing:

Saints sign G Orlando Franklin (1 year): A Grade
There are no financial details available yet, but I'm going to assume that this 1-year deal isn't worth more than a couple million dollars. If so, this is an outstanding acquisition.

Orlando Franklin is very talented; he signed a $36.5 million contract two offseasons ago with the Chargers. Unfortunately for Franklin, he hasn't been able to stay healthy. Things could change for him now that he's on a new team with a different training staff. If so, he can be a big upgrade over Andrus Peat at left guard, which was looking like the one dubious spot for New Orleans up front, assuming first-round rookie Ryan Ramczyk isn't a bust.

Having talent on the offensive line is extremely important in the post-CBA NFL, and Franklin certainly brings that to the table. Whether he can stay healthy remains to be seen, but either way, it doesn't appear as though the Saints are taking any sort of risk.

"Clifford Franklin's got moves even Clifford Franklin hasn't seen yet. To Clifford Franklin the ball is like a cold. Clifford Franklin is gonna come down with it. Clifford Franklin is gonna catch it."

Great movie!

Oh they're everywhere, just watching...
But again according to some we shouldn't worry about the offensive line. Shouldn't even be addressed.

Interesting. Again they are playing the gamble with injured players.
We've had our Bryds, Spillers, and Ellerbies but we've hit on a few like Breaux, Hightower, etc

Oh and some dude who played QB for the Chargers.

Danno said anybody worth their salt knows that there isn't anyone worth a damn out there on offensive line.

That was before we signed this guy...

There couldn't possibly be anyone else out there right?? The though is just ludicrous!!!!

Yep, gotta hope it was the scheme, coaching, culture or even a dislike of powder puff blue, and not that he lost a step.
