What are we relying on the first few weeks?

Our oline is not going to be completely healthy. Not talking about TA here but Unger. So will we be relying on defense to not fatigue for these low scoring starts on offense?

Unger will be healthy in about a month. Pointless topic.

Two false assumptions here:

1. Unger won't be back. All reports have him available for the first game of the season. Unger is a veteran. He really doesn't need training camp and preseason games to be ready for the season.

2. Low scoring starts. There is no evidence between O-Line changes and low scoring on the offense.

Given that both of the presumptions are false, there is really nothing to discuss.

Sorry but you are wrong here. I'm talking from a experience from my own playing career stretching more than 15 years. Unger is a veteran so he needs LESS snaps than a rookie or younger player but he needs them. You need snaps to get ready and just get the small details down with the guys next to you and to really get up to speed.

Doom and freaking gloom all the time!!

The season hasn't even started yet and you're already laying down.

Remember when Kelvin Benjamin went down and the Panthers looked lost, then they went 15-1 and made the super bowl.

Orlando Franklin looks like a good signing if he stays healthy. He can play left guard so Peat can slide to left tackle. I think we'll be fine.

WRONG. If Unger was out the first few weeks we would have a hard time scoring against the defenses we face the first three weeks. Oline protection does matter, especially the center. Did you see 2014?

And it is not conclusive Unger will be back week 1. What I don't get is why are we signing these FAs if there is not a issue here?

And that's another point. Is Ram not ready?

Who says doom and gloom? I just asked a question assuming the OL was gonna start the season with two non-starters. And you are comparing a receiver to a olineman. And Carolina had one heck of a easy schedule that year.

Never rely solely on a rookie. Especially protecting the QBs blind side. At least not out of the gate. Franklin is a guard. And Kelemente, if he can start week one, isn't exactly the creme of the crop. Franklin is a better option. And if anything, good depth.

No more injuries and we are light years away from where we have been the last half decade.

Yep. Not it's so much about Unger but about the younger guys training with him for cohesiveness.

No, you guaranteed we are going to have low scoring totals in the first few weeks.

It doesn't matter if they are two seperate positions, you can have the best O lineman in the league but if no one gets open you will faulter. They can't block forever.

Re: What are we relying on the first few weeks?

Franklin is a good pickup and is an insurance policy for both Tackle and quard. If Ramczek can't cut it Franklin could start at guard and Peat slides over to tackle. I think they are going to try and keep Peat at guard. OL is a strenght. I am optimistic we can weather the storm.

The oline has to block to help the receiver? Now you are basically saying receivers were our problem?

I agree. If Ram and Unger are both out then our offensive production should take a hit. We can't count on Unger because we know how inept our doctors are and Unger could have a set back. It's not a stretch to image us starting two back ups and not being a cohesive unit with an inexperienced LT and a center who can't snap the ball correctly.

Frankly, I'm a little nervous too.

Unger is close to being fully activated. He is obviously off the PUP/active list since he's been seen in pads practicing his snapping. Ramczyk is supposed to be playing this Sunday according to reports earlier in the week.

And the other guys need snaps WITH him in there.
