METAIRIE, La. -- Just when the buzz had started to die down around New Orleans Saints receiver Brandon Coleman, he has come into his fourth training camp and cranked up the volume.

The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder has been a constant presence throughout the first four days of practice -- adding at least one deep ball to his daily repertoire.

He drew some huge praise from both Sean Payton and Drew Brees on Sunday. Payton singled Coleman out first when asked which players have stood out to him. And Brees paid Coleman the ultimate compliment.

"There's really not a guy who I have more trust in than Brandon Coleman, honestly," Brees said. "I've played with him now for a long time, and I feel like he's a guy that can play every position. He can play X, he can play Z, and he can play inside. So his versatility in this offense is really good, he's a very smart player and he's been a guy who's just done whatever we needed him to do over the last few years.

"Obviously, with [former Saints receiver] Brandin Cooks being a featured guy and with Michael Thomas coming on last year and with Willie [Snead] getting his touches, Brandon's just kind of had to get in where he could fit in. And yet, there have been those moments where he's come up with some big plays, some big catches, some big third-down conversions, a go route, a vertical.

"He's just a big target that I have a lot of trust in, and I think we've had enough time on task together from training camp to just time that we spend on our own together where there's just a great amount of confidence I have in him."

Now before you say, "We've heard this before," that is not exactly true.

More here ...

6'6" on one side. 6'3" on the other side. I really hope Brandon Coleman pans out this year.

I've suspected Coleman's problem is his confidence more than anything else. I didn't think he'd be able to overcome it. Hopefully I was wrong.

Saints WR Brandon Coleman: "It's time. It's my fourth training camp, and the time is now."

Throw Corey Fuller in the slot at 6'2" and Drew will quickly fall in love with the set.

Coleman may have had the light turn on finally. huge plus.

I think he did. Watching him late last season he seemed to start getting much better with his routes and hands. Fuller would be a huge addition if he can keep it up. Defensive matchups from hell. We could be great in the red zone. I do get excited about the O. Still waiting for the D to excite.

I like what I'm hearing. I hope Coleman has turned up his game and we have another weapon.

There seems to be a little more legitimate buzz about the team than normal this offseason. I think they are getting hungry again like we haven't seen in a while. Hoping for 10+ win season but we need improved some players, like Coleman, to help us ascend.

Awfully nice of Drew to say that, and I get why he's saying it, but we know the truth :)

He has worked hard this offseason and is bigger (10lbs says the reports), stronger and visibly faster than before. That does wonders for your confidence.

Coleman; Fuller; Snead have all been getting rave reviews so far in training camp... I wonder if it has anything to do with Curtis Johnson?

So does having a HOF QB say he trusts you and a head coach saying how much you've improved.

Last season, Payton called Coleman's camp "pedestrian". With some guys, that motivates them to do better, with others it hurts their confidence.

6'2" 210 4.43 aint a bad package. He has been lighting it up this off season so far.

The knock on him coming out of college was

Doesn't explode off the line, and takes a few strides to get up to full speed. Still raw in his technique, deliberate in his routes. Needs to do a better job of being more physical in his routes with his hands, and needs to prove he can handle the press. Also needs to prove he can track the football and come away with the contested catch. Lacks pop as a blocker, will get pushed backwards.

In other words Raw

Despite the injury history (foot surgery) he had in Detroit he had some great WR to help him on his skill set.
Calvin Johnson Golden Tate and Lance Moore were solid mentors. Detroit tried to sneak him onto the PS but we had a great scout in ex lions coach Joe Lombardi

6th round in 2014 was a shocker IMO but so was Kenny Stills in the fifth add Brandon Coleman going undrafted in 2015.

keep an eye on this kid. by season end he might make Ted "Butter Fingers" Ginn a return specialist only and a target for cap causality by 2019

he appears ready to establish himself as a legit NFL WR as does Coleman, check back with me in 2018

Brandon Coleman and Corey Fuller have a solid chance of becoming our 3/4 WR

Sounds a lot like what he was saying about Lance Moore several years ago.

So he's a true downfield threat?

Sure but that would be a waste of so many of his other skill sets. If that foot is healed and holds up he might give the saints a #3/#4 WR that is a weapon all over the field. Something we have not had in years.

He was on the upswing in Detroit before the foot injury. Also remember the Lions had Stafford locked onto Tate and Johnson on the field so few passes went his way. Even if he was open. Matthew Stafford is not really a QB that is known to spread the ball around. Drew will use him

Coleman was a rJr coming out of college that missed his entire Soph season. Two years of playing time killed his stock but in no way did I see him going undrafted. I was beating the drum a bit the longer the draft went on. Then to grab him as an UDFA had me labeling him as a steal. I expect some PS and a few bumps in the road when he did get a chance and now he looks to be poised to break out and establish himself as a threat team have to game plan for.

Cross your finger and sacrifice live chicken so when the draft in 2018 rolls around Coleman and Fuller make WR an after thought. Slot is my #1 wish. Replacing Ginn is #2

True dat! No way Stafford could even share the same urinal with Drew. Drew will get the ball to everyone. That's why that Cooks trade didn't phase me at all.

As far as that chicken sacrifice goes, would you settle for me dripping a bit of my chicken sandwich on my shirt while I was eating lunch today?

Saints WR Coach Curtis Johnson on B.Coleman "I'm here to smooth out some elements but hard work dedication, concentration that's all Brandon"

Offense will be the best in years if we can get Unger back healthy all year. Center is the only question I have about Offense. Sure LT is a Question for some. Not me. Center is the issue. Everything else is dynamite.

You're not satisfied with Snead in the slot?

lets see what Sneads pay day looks like. I would like a few solid backup plans. Before throwing a large chunk of change at him remember Jarvis Landry WR Miami is a FA in 2018 and I doubt they will pay him as a top WR because he plays in the slot. Landry will set the market price.

I like Snead outside

4 WR set is showing some promise.
