Considering an NFL team deals with dozens of injuries every season I would have to believe that the vast majority are dealt with correctly. Even practitioners with bad reputations only have a small percentage of major issues. We, as the public, only hear about the ones that don't work out.

Besides Breaux, only Chris Chamberlain and Keenan Lewis have brought forth claims of mismanagement. I know a few around here claim that the Unger case was mishandled, but it was actually handled with proper protocol. First a non-evasive approach was taken until the last chance to try a surgical approach that could still have him ready prior to the beginning of the season. As I have pointed out, surgery is ALWAYS the last resort whenever other options are possible.

What you are saying is undoubtedly true for the majority of teams. That said, there is such a thing as malpractice, and if that was happening here, I would imagine these incidents aren't as isolated as you might believe. A lot of players probably wouldn't know if they are receiving bad treatment, or if they are being misdiagnosed, so they don't say anything.

Sean Payton fired these doctors, and I find it unlikely that he did so solely on the Breaux situation. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling a lot more dirt is out there that we haven't heard about for legal reasons (they don't want to make public accusations while any possible investigation is going on). But that's just my gut.

We've had a lot of players not just get hurt, which isn't terribly uncommon (though our numbers seem a bit high) but many of them seem to sustain injuries that linger for unusual periods of time. There never appears to be much of a plan to get these guys healthy, and they just keep running out there and re-injuring themselves. Maybe it's just bad fortune. Maybe it's bad doctors... Or, maybe it's both.

I actually know quite a lot about this situation. My wife is one of a handful of malpractice claims adjusters for the entity that insures virtually every hospital and hospital related doctor in the State of Louisiana. The Oschner health system is among them. There is no greater occurrence of malpractice with these doctors or that system than most any other in the state.

Malpractice is usually related to isolated individual incidents in otherwise competent care. Repeated incidents would quickly cost the physician their license or at minimum a quick dismissal from a hospital that they may be associated with.

I know exactly what malpractice is, otherwise I wouldn't have used the term. There are mistakes, and then there are incidents of outright carelessness or even intentional misdiagnosis, in order to get more money out of patients. Let's not sit here and pretend these things never happen.

With all due respect to your wife, and her profession, I fail to see how her working as a claims adjuster has anything to do with these particular doctors in question. Did she personally investigate them? Does she personally know them?

Assuming the answer is no, on both counts, how then can you make this statement that "There is no greater occurrence of malpractice with these doctors or that system than most any other in the state"? At least when I am giving a hypothesis on a situation, I give no illusion that it is anything other than just that; a hypothesis. You are making a definitive statement without any direct knowledge. Just a general knowledge of malpractice claims through your wife's profession.

cost is the prime issue.

players and owners get billions yet little is said about increasing the money for better medical staff at collective barging meetings.

Players are on record saying the health of players is secondary to getting the money now.

It will take both parties to solve this issue.

Here is yet another area were the comish is failure. He can make every one money but at the expense of the quality of the game.

Your assumption is wrong. As I said, she is VERY familiar with the Oschner system AND their doctors. My wife isn't a claims adjuster. She is a MALPRACTICE claims adjuster. That's all she handles and she has several hundred open cases at any given time. When I say there are only a handful of malpractice adjusters in the state of Louisiana I mean less than five and ALL of them are with her company and they ALL have access to EVERY case. Any malpractice claim filed against either of these two doctors would come across her desk in some form or fashion.

As for "even intentional misdiagnosis, in order to get more money out of patients", in the rare occurrence that this would happen it would result in criminal charges, not malpractice. Your other two points are valid. Virtually all valid malpractice claims are related to mistakes and carelessness.
