Game 1 good notes?

Thomas Morestead punted very well, every FG was made, Fleener caught the ball, Cam Jordan is on pace for 16 sacks!, Ted Ginn caught the ball (I don't recall any drops), no turnovers on offense, I didn't yell at the misses or the kids, I did drink my vodka from a half full saints cup too.

Re: Game 1 good notes?

Ramczyk - played well considering who he had in front of him.
Lattimore - he provided blanket coverage. Big plays were opposite his side.
Banjo - he looked good all of pre season, played well last night.
Thomas -best punter in the game.
Jordan .. Cam always brings his A game.

Fleener finally showed up.

That's all I got.

secondary is again a major concern. PJ Williams is my #1 concern in the group. he just did not look like his old self. tentative works for me

I literally don't understand it, Theilen ran a crossing route and a corner route. Those were the extent of the routes he ran, PJ was in trail position every time.

If he had stayed with Theilen for an extra second, our D line would have got there.

Are we going to have to draft a CB for the 11th straight year? I had high hopes for PJ and he looked as bad as Harris.

Re: Game 1 good notes?

I still have a bitter taste in my mouth to think about positive. This game we needed to win, had the talent to win but with bad schemes and plans for this game, we lost. It look like Sam Bradford knew every defensive play call when simply he was targeting Harris whenever he felt any threat. Offensive was no better, we in the red zone and we relied more on a rookie when we have 2 qualified vets on the bench.

Re: Game 1 good notes?

OH this was to be positive? sorry

Surprisingly enough the saints defense managed not to have a complete stinker on the score board.

This could have been a 40+ point game for the vikings

CAM
Our draft looks pretty good so far.
Rankins looked good.
FA Klein was a great signing.
Banjo a ST beast.
Lutz is the real deal
Morstead is otherworldly leg alien.

neugey 09-12-2017 12:10 PM

Re: Game 1 good notes?

Klein was impressive especially in run support. Smart of us to grab him after division rival Carolina coached him up. Might be the best move of the offseason, we could potentially be set at the MLB position for the next 5 years.

Re: Game 1 good notes?

Some things I thought were positive.
Fleener made some fantastic grabs.
Ramczyk coulda looked worse considering who he was up against.
Tommy Lee established himself as a deep threat.
Ingram looked great in the passing game.
Klein looked like a field general.

That's about all I could think of.

Good notes... let me think for a minute......Okay the Saints were on MNF
which means I got to see the game on regular TV instead of streaming on
a small computer screen.

Offense didn't play as a whole during preseason, may need to work off some rust. Hopefully it's off.
We did play a very good defense.
Depth along offensive line is scary.
Fleener didn't drop any balls.

Not only did he not drop any balls, he fought for them when he needed to. Something we didn't see last year. He looked like a different guy last night. I hope we see more of it. Just my uneducated opinion but I thought they should have gone to him more often so Minnesota would have to dedicate more help to stop him.

Meanwhile Coleman came up small when we needed him (see dropped TD) most. C'mon Brandon, you are 6'6! Go beast mode with that size.

We again made a mediocre QB look like a probowler? We are really good at that.
Special Teams did look good on the positive.

The long list is really worrisome, PJ Williams really disappointed me, he couldn't even stay with someone who ran 2 different routes all game.

Anyone know how many times Lattimore was targeted? I'd have to go back and watch but I think he was only targeted twice.

I'll start to panic if we're 1-3 after 4.

2-2 sounds about right
3-1 was optimistic
4-0 was a pipe dream.

0-4 and I'm gonna scream regime change with most of the rest of yous guys!

Anything worse than 2-2 and I don't know how the higher ups ignore it, I just hope they have the stones to send Payton and his buddies packing if/when it comes to that.

Well I don't think we're going to beat NE this weekend and no way we go into Carolina and beat them there in two weeks...based on last night not a snowball's chance.

We "might" beat Miami, but I'm not holding my breath. At the 1st turn we're 1-3 if we're very very lucky.

PS - I hope I'm wrong

PSS - I'm not wrong

I disagree that he allowed a TD though.

We can still go 2-2, I don't think that's unrealistic at all. We should beat Miami, and we usually play up to our competition so it wouldn't shock me if we won 1 of 2 between NE and CAR.

One week at a time. On to New England....

Re: Game 1 good notes?

I was listening to Moving the Chains on NFL Radio this afternoon and they were fairly positive about the Saints defense. Sam Bradford didn't set the all-time completion percentage record (broke Brees' record) last season because he's a chump. That offensive line that they assembled looked stout. They really liked Klein and Anzalone. They also liked Lattimore's and Marcus Willliam's performances. They said it was basically a tough match-up under the circumstances.

Missing Snead hurt, but Lewis will get some very valuable experience. Thomas is money. He is going to be our stud when they finally ride him enough.

What I'm confused about though Guido, is how PJ williams looked like Jason David out there when Theilen ran 2 different routes all game.

There were several plays that if PJ didn't just ignore Theilen, then the D line gets to Bradford.

If Theilen did that to us, imagine what Gronk, Cooks etc will do

ChrisXVI 09-12-2017 05:11 PM

Re: Game 1 good notes?

It's hard to believe, but this was only the 2nd full game of PJ Williams' career. We're essentially starting 2 rookies at CB and 1 at FS.

Don't get me wrong. I'm pullin hard for 3-1, but I just can't get to that place from what I saw last night. I feel like NE and Carolina are as good as Minnesota (or better) and we're going to beat Tom Brady? We're going into Carolina and beating the Panthers?

I will gladly eat a double helping of crow with a side of yard bird if we beat either of those two teams in the next couple weeks. I'll even let Danno prepare it...

Not sure how to answer that. I didn't like the zone approach. Far too much room for error with young, inexperienced players. And with the limited time under the new CBA it is difficult to get the communication down enough to run an efficient zone. Man coverage takes advantage of the defender's natural ability. At this point, given the youth, I'd rather see man. But, I can see why Vaccaro called an off day practice. Communication is key in zone. Not recognizing and relaying the correct information can hang your teammate out to dry. I have feeling that Vaccaro experienced a bit of that in the game.

Not to brag, but I'll wager I'm a better cook than most everyone here. ;-)

I found out that this is the worst Saints loss in years and years for me. I'm kind of in a full on depression mode and it ain't getting any better. NE isn't going to help either I'm afraid.

A.J. Kelin and Alex Anzalone I thought played great games...[

Though we weren't ripping off big runs, we were up 6-3 with a balanced run/pass attack...
