Brandin Cooks' frustrations led to Saints sending him to Patriots

It had been rumored for months. And yet, when the Saints traded star wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Patriots in March, it was one of the most shocking circumstances of this offseason.

According to multiple sources informed of the situation in New Orleans, Cooks was dealt because of a combination of his unhappiness with his role, his doubts that aging quarterback Drew Brees could get him the ball deep, the Saints' frustrations with Cooks focusing on his numbers and their disbelief he should be paid like a top receiver.

"Closed mouths don't get fed," he told reporters. Internally, when Payton discussed the issue with Cooks, the receiver never left satisfied. The longtime coach pacified the issue, telling Cooks he'd get targets. And the following week he did -- a season-high seven catches the next week. But Cooks felt the elephant in the room -- Brees' arm strength not enabling him to find Cooks deep -- couldn't be talked about on any level.

Yes, I was really upset on all those plays where Cooks was running wide open downfield and Drew couldn't get the ball to him. /sarcasm

Well Drew does miss more going deep now than before... Just saying. That does not diminish what Drew does as a HOF QB.

I read somewhere he refused to go over the middle, that's why he's gone.

Not real involved in the Patriots' offense either.

Well the arm strength thing is interesting. Moore said it first and now Cooks has said it.

If you are referring to Lance Moore that is completely false and made up, he never had a bad word to say about Drew.

I didn't say he did but he was the first player to make note of his arm strength. That's the argument, not bad mouthing Drew.

Brees seemed capable of hitting Lewis deep last week. I was watching the game at my dad's, and he said "Lewis" before the screen even panned over to show him.

PLAYER ATTEMPTS YDS AVG TDS LONG

Brandin Cooks 2 6 3.0 0 13

Lattimore is the real deal on the boundary.

He knelt down in the backfield. I have never seen a player chicken out like that before. He didn't do squat. Mike Thomas played great. Logan outplayed Cooks today. That is plain sad.
