It's really a crap shoot with coaches but we need to look at the ones who's contracts will be up the end of this season and snatch one before the other team even has time to present an offer. We really do need a defensive guy and that's why I mentioned Patricia. Good Defense has some great players and they stopped us today. James has really turned Penn State around in the most difficult situation ever. Maybe not head coach but we need guys like that.

How much would it cost to get Harbaugh out of Michigan? If we were to keep Brees I know Gruden would to coach him for a year or two. We just need a change. This administration has ran its course.

All I know is that we were put to bed by both Minnesota and New England.
Arguably, New England humiliated us with their last drive, we did not notice and we played as if yards made could become some sort of playoff-defining tie-breaker.

We need a defensive rebirth. That above all.

Agreed Rez and I mentioned him a week ago, I don't think it would take much. They've been grumblings at him already and games are just uneasy wins. He would come back in a heart beat if the money was right!

Talk here in Indy is Harbaugh will be the next coach, played for the Colts.

Gruden? Sits in a booth with no pressure and makes millions. He is going to give that up to return to the NFL? He isn't any better judge of QB talent unless the QB is named "Brettttt Favrrrrrre"

Gruden's "Stellar" NFL Record
Regular season: 95–81 (.540)
Postseason: 5–4 (.556)
Career: 100–85 (.541)

How fitting: Sean Payton 2.0!

Give him SP money, at least he will win

I absolutely admit I bought in to the Saints improved defense during the preseason. They got pressure. They hit people. The tackled well. The coverage was close at worst. Oh what a difference the regular season makes. No pressure. Bad tackling. Blown coverages. Teo' and Klien look slow. Anzalone looks like a rookie. The safeties are just bad. I just don't get the complete lack of anything good on defense. It's going to be a LONG year.

Nope. This ain't life or death. There is no life boat for anyone to get on. This is my ship and there is nothing I can do to change it so I choose to continue to enjoy as much as I can.

Don't forget that we now have no offense either.

They can't convert 3rd downs, they can't create running lanes or string passes together. They can't score more than 2 TD's a game.

The whole team is a mess and SP and loomis are entirely to blame.

Let's see, they face the QB that led the NFL in completion % last season in his home on Monday night. Then they face arguably the greatest QB in NFL history the following week.

That's fine, I have no problem with that. I'd just like to see a competitive team get fielded, they haven't sniffed the playoffs for 4 years and SP/Loomis need see the mess they have created.

I just don't see any fire. I mean....Brees gets fired up for games. Why the hell is the defense all fired up and playing crazy in the preseason. Then the season starts and they get duped by Minny and crushed by New England.

I'll say this...if SP can light a fire under this team and go into the bye with a 2-2 record, I'll have a little more faith.

But right now...this team looks uncompetitive and lost. There is no fight, no desire and no hustle.

I understand that we have a tough schedule this year, but if SP can't field a decent team, I want him out.

I'm at this point where I say to myself this isn't just Dennis Allen's defense.
More like "Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis AND Dennis Allen's defense."

Shame on Dennis Allen for allowing SP and Loomis control the quality and size (short) of defensive backfield and raw material to work with.

SP and Loomis need to take as much blame as possible for years of draft, cap money and contract mismanagement.

That said the stats will be shocking. Brady threw for almost 500 yards today and the Saints have started 0-2 and given up over 1,000 yards to opposing teams.

Fast forward thinking ...

I really hope that when the Payton era comes to an end(and it will), the FO brass should really focus on bringing in a defensive (see Carolina & Atlanta) minded HC.

Side note - at least Lattimore appears to be a stud in the making. He can flat out cover and shut down Cooks today.

Any particular defensive minded HC?

Teryl Austin? Vic Fangio?

I'm debating making a thread about this very topic but I'm fairly certain it'll be spammed by people who believe Payton should never be fired.

What's amazing, I saw a few guys just going through the motions in week one. Today was worse. Several guys have already checked out. Losing hurts. But, having no passion and fire is impossible to watch.

Re: Saints vs Patriots Gameday Thread

I personally dont think the whole team and coaches need to be blown up. I really like our core pieces on both sides of the ball. I would however like to see Payton and DA fired and let the new coach pick his new 4-3 DC. let Carmichael and Brees control the offense. Try that for a season and go from there. Its weird though,Payton comes across as an arrogant a hole who seems to have lost his team seasons ago,but players seem to want to remain here. Maybe because Bree's is here I guess...
