Playcalling improvements
In Miami Game:
1) Shuttle pass to Kamara for the TD 2) Inside screen to Thomas 3) QB Keeper on 4th down There was another one against Carolina, too. Can't remember it now. When they call certain plays seemed less predictable. Just some tweaks that, in general, seem different and more creative to me. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
More well-executed IMO

Re: Playcalling improvements
They are starting to show signs of playing as a unit

Re: Playcalling improvements
Kamara is a hell of a player.
I've been tough on Payton a lot, but I'll give him his dues, that shovel pass was a perfect call. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
Adjustments overall. On defense, it looks like less personal groupings. A simplified approach.

Re: Playcalling improvements
Kamara is a matchup nightmare. He will be a key to get this offense Rolling like it used to.

His movements are so fluid & natural. Brees targeted him 10 times ... 10 catches. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
Plus "knock on wood" Kamara holds on to the ball.

Re: Playcalling improvements
If those plays wasn't executed the tread would be blaming Sean for his play calling.
Its all in the execution of the play. If we did recover Ambush in the SB Sean would be long gone. It came down to the execution. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
Kamara is our starting RB. If we had a strong OL he could look like Kareem Hunt. Very good vision and good at everything else. I bet he gets 65% of the work load next game.

I never understood that gripe. Yea it was predictable, but it worked. Why fix something that ain't broke. We always scored enough and gained enough yardage to beat every team we played. The problem was defense. People just got bored seeing it. Other teams still rarely stopped it. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
I could see better play calling from my chair............:p

Re: Playcalling improvements
Play calling improvements...
Playing with the lead sure does matter a little eh? |

The shuffle pass touchdown was a beaut. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
Kamara is the second coming of Pierre Thomas but with better hands and more speed.

Re: Playcalling improvements
The screen to Michael Thomas was very encouraging. Had we thrown it to Ginn or Tommylee it would have been more predictable what we were doing. But changing it up and giving Thomas that play totally caught the D off guard and helped get us the first down. This is the kind of variation we need in our offense.

Re: Playcalling improvements
I thought the QB sneak on 4th down showed a bit of recent history pattern breaking. Seems to me that Payton would have backed off the gas previously and put the game back on the D.

Re: Playcalling improvements
I thought the game plan was really good vs Miami.
It appeared as though we were content with dink and dunk. Miami's strength of their defense is their pass rush and as you saw we had issues protecting Brees for a good bit of his drop backs. So calling for the short quick pass plays was very smart. I'm really liking how Brees really hasn't forced the ball very much this season. |
Re: Playcalling improvements
Not sure if they did this more than once. But I noticed one play with AP in the backfield and the play call was a pass with AP staying in to block. He didn't do very well but the fact they called a pass play with him in seemed to be a break from the norm.

Re: Playcalling improvements
I felt even if we won, without some new looks and getting Kamara heavily involved we were going nowhere. I was starting to think Payton was just going through the motions but it looks like he still cares.
