As deep as the 2018 draft should be at QB, I'd be disappointed if we didn't take a shot for someone to play with Brees for at least two years...

I like "The Kid"
Tyler Palko, Sean Canfield and Garrett Grayson C'mon 2018!!! Shrewd judge of QB talent!

The same thing he has said all along. Repeatedly. Over and over. Why? Because it is the truth. As much as you apparently wish he was gone Brees simply doesn't feel the same way. You even claimed beyond a shadow of a doubt that Brees will absolutely be in another NFL uniform at the beginning of next season. You said you would bet on it and then disappeared when I tried to hold you to it. Are you still willing to make that bet? I'll make it easy on you. $20 cash. We'll each send it to someone we both trust here on the board. That person then can send the $40 (less postage costs) to the winner ... you if Brees begins the 2018 season on a different NFL roster than the Saints or me if he doesn't start the 2018 season on a different NFL roster than the Saints.

Well?

They can always be traded after those two years and we can draft another to groom for trade.

Gotta think it would be in Drew's best interest in his own brand to do so...

I honestly think his "brand" is extremely important to him. Brees has expressed an interest in politics after his career and moving from where all four of his children were born and raised would be political suicide. Brees could easily win a Louisiana state senate race if he retired as a Saints in a few years. Then he could move on the the U.S. Senate.

The saints have finally rebuilt the starting OL Depth still needs to be addressed

But hope really returned the day Rob was shown the door and DA took over.

Now with Delvin coming back and barring any other injuries by Dec, we should have a better idea what DA is trying to do. A healthy Delvin and a healthy Marshon should give DA a freedom he has yet felt in the secondary.

looking forward to this development

These are things that will keep Drew around and have him take one for the home team at contract time

Real Hope came in the form of Mike Nolan, Ryan Nielsen...

The 3 wasted seasons of Drew Brees playing stellar is not something I will ever forgive Payton for. His arrogance has always gotten the best of him.

Well, I have never seen a Head Coach handicap himself with personnel suicide before a season, a game the way Payton has...

Kinda why you need a Jim Finks-type GM, to reign in the ole ball coach; kinda why checks and balances are so very important...

Not that I'm in a hurry to rush Brees off, in fact, I'm hoping we get a real successor in this draft to learn, tutelage while Brees still excels...

Re: Drew Brees isn't going anywhere, and Saints finally have hope for future

I remember people on this board calling for Brees to be traded years ago.I didn't agree with them then and I don't agree with them now. A true franchise QB is very hard to get, much less a HOFer. We ride Brees to the very end, and hopefully by then we will have someone good waiting in the wings to take his place. I really hoped that was going to be Chad Kelly last draft, he was still available at the end, was shocked that no one grabbed him up in the 7th rnd, as if that would have been any risk at all. Oh well.

I'm not sure if you saw the Brees interview on Sunday, but he once again said explicitly that he will remain a Saint only and still plans to play for several more years.

Drew wants to win and if the franchise didn't make the necessary moves then Drew could leave and go to a contender with his current contract. We are a more complete team with a chance to get to the playoffs again. I think he stays and retires a Saint which is what he really wants.

That is exactly what he expressed in the one on one interview with Jimmy Johnson on the FOX pre-game and added that he plans to also play for several more years. It all came up when Johnson asked about any contract negotiations. Brees said there are none because he wanted to wait, but said it will get done for sure.

No. He wants to win, but he wants to remain a Saint more. And the Saints have just as good a chance of winning it all this year and into the future as any team. As he has repeated over and over again, he will definitely play several more years and they will all be with the Saints. What is a contender anyway? Nobody knows what real chance any team has going into a season. All kinds of things could happen. Leaving a team with whom you already have chemistry to go elsewhere makes zero sense if the only reason is wanting to win.

I told you I'll take that bet. Obviously you were to focused on finding fault with everyone else to notice. I said if we have another losing season he will be gone. We make it to the playoffs he will stay. Ill admit it is starting to look like we may actually come out above 500 and possibly get a wild card. I'll take the bet anyway. No middle man, I'll PayPal it straight to you. We will see who pays the piper.
And how you equate believing Brees will leave to wanting Brees to leave is beyond me.

Drew isn't going anywhere, regardless of our record.

What's the bet? I'd like to get in on this action. Now, I'm not a betting man by any stretch, but this is as near a sure thing as I can imagine.

Look Drew is comfortable here. He's comfortable with the players and with the coaches and the Saints don't have anyone qualified to replace him, and even if they draft the next Drew Brees they're not turning it over to a rookie. They'll pay him well, for probably 3 more years is my guess.

But he'll be here next year. That's no 'guess'. I want in. What's the bet?

It's $20 bucks but I'm not gonna get into the entire board for 20 bucks each.

No. You have already crawfished big time. You guaranteed that Brees would be on another NFL roster beginning next season at the start of 2018. No conditions. I told you I'd take that bet. That's when I told you I'd take that bet. None of this make the playoff or not bull. That was after the first two games. If you are still willing to do what you said then I'll go that $20 with you.

Original bet offer

It still cracks me when I'm watching the game in public and inevitably you hear someone turn to another member in their party and ask Brees played for the Chargers?

Even more telling is he was taken one round after recently inducted HOF RB LaDainian Tomlinson...

To be honest, I became a Brees fan because I went to NC State. Whoa! Let me explain. I have followed all Wolfpack QB's since the mid 70's at least (Roman Gabriel was an earlier exception). Therefore, when Philip Rivers went to the Chargers in that draft/trade fiasco I wanted him to get the start. But, this damned Drew Brees dude kicked his game up several notches and wasn't letting him have the chance. I watched lots of their games and gained great respect. When the time came and it all worked out I was ecstatic! My wife ordered me the original 2006 Brees jersey before the preseason and I have worn it every game since.

And, yes, I am taking it on our two week cruise leaving this weekend.

Had followed Brees since Purdue; see a lot of similarities between Brees and OU's Baker Mayfield...
