Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
Two former heads of the NFL’s officiating department say Bears tight end Zach Miller was robbed of a touchdown on what turned out to be the last play of his season on Sunday.
Miller, who suffered a serious knee injury as he fell to the ground after catching a pass in the end zone, was initially ruled to have caught the pass. But on replay, V.P. of Officiating Al Riveron ruled that Miller hadn’t maintained control of the ball as he went to the ground. Riveron’s predecessors Mike Pereira and Dean Blandino, who now work as FOX analysts, both said on their weekly online show that Riveron got it wrong. “At some point the process of the catch ends, and it ends when he rolls over on the ground with control,” Blandino said. “It was ruled a catch on the field. I didn’t see anything definitive to overturn it and quite frankly, if it had been ruled incomplete on the field, if it had been me in the command center, I would have reversed it to a catch.” read more on PFT |

Is it me, or are these two much better at making obvious calls than they were when they were employed by the NFL?

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
If it was it was. We're usually the ones getting screwed. We can't control officiating and there's been plenty of times where the Saints got the **** at the end of the stick.
I'd rather not have something like that contested. It doesn't change the outcome because the game is already over. |
Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
I thought it was a catch, but regardless they wouldn't have won. Instead of running the ball at the end of the game we would have opened the offense up, thus no Mark Ingram fumbles.
Can second guess everything and play the what if game all day. What I do know is the announcer for the game was slobbering on the bears jock strap, was embarrassing to listen to their bias. |
Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
I was at the Detroit game where we got royally screwed on the interception and partially on the fumble. Usually the call on the field stands, which is BS (and surprising in this case)

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
I was laughing my a$$ off when Blandino stated it must have been when the TE let go of the ball after the play was over. :D
What a tool. They clearly though he didn't have full control of the ball and that it hit the ground when the TE came down. Now, I'm not saying they were right, but that's how they saw it. |
Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
Ever notice how these MFers come out of the woodwork when it works to the Saints favor???
Where was all the outcry in not one, but two missed calls last year against Denver??? |

The keyword here is "FORMER"
And the COWARDLY LION sang "If I Were The King Of The Forest" There's that word again "IF" |
Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
Sounding a little cold here, but a guy almost losing his leg on the play doesn't make it a catch. Was just watching Total Access (My nephew Dan Hellie's a talking head on it) and some other guy was going through the play frame by frame. Miller bobbled the ball twice while heading toward the ground and never re-established control before the ball actually hit the ground.
I know, I know. I give my nephew **** for being an NFL minion every chance I get. He doesn't care, he gets to go to all the great games... |
Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
Close call, but I think he scored.
But the amount of calls that went against us is a mountain compared the mole hill of calls in our favor. So... https://i.imgur.com/dmXSxli.jpg |

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
I thought it was a catch but how many times have we been burned by bad calls or no calls? Suck it.

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
I didn't think it was a catch. If you look at the replay, as soon as he hits the ground, the ball bounces up. That is what they saw, the ball hitting the ground and bouncing up. Had nothing to do with what happened after he rolled over and let go of the ball.

Hell, I couldn't watch it again without spitting up in my mouth....looked like a stretch Armstrong when the little wire thing inside finally broke and it was all fouled up, forever just like his knee will be. Hope he can recover from it.

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
Everyone in front of the big screen at my house watching the Saints game thought it was a catch......even I thought it was a catch. I feel bad for the man.

Scoreboard.

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
I watched the official explanation. It was lose the whole time, never had control. The ball never stopped moving basically in his hand or arm or whatever. The ground had nothing to do with it. He never established that split second or so where one can clearly see he "got it".

The Saints only converted two 1st downs. |

Re: Blandino, Pereira both say Zach Miller scored
The thing about this play is I think they both skipped over the part where the incompletion actually may have happened. They kept referencing the end, but it's in the middle of the catch you see the ball bounce up(probably off the turf). I think that is the part of the catch that the officials actually saw. Now I don't know for sure that it was an incompletion , but there was definitely something there to debate. Neither the announcers or blandino seemed to even notice it.

a game played by humans and judged by humans always has issues.
cry me a river already. geshhh When robots and computers take to the field then they have a shot at perfection. Damn computer programs will be human so there goes the perfection of George Jetson football |
