Northwestern defensive tackle Luis Castillo acknowledged in a letter to all 32 NFL teams that he took steroids following the 2004 season, league sources said.

Sources also added that Castillo tested positive at the Indianapolis scouting combine in late February.

In his letter, Castillo told teams that he was frustrated that an elbow injury wasn't healing properly, and he turned to steroids in order to perform better at the combine.

Castillo's agent Rick Smith confirmed that the letter had been sent to the teams and said "we've spoken to all 32 teams and we're comfortable with where we're at on this issue."

Northwestern athletic director Mark Murphy, also a former safety for the Washington Redskins, released the following statement: "For several years, Northwestern has had a comprehensive educational, preventive testing policy for alcohol and other drugs. Rare positive tests are dealt with quickly through education, counseling and mandatory suspension. Our testing policy far exceeds guidelines established by the NCAA."

His coach, Randy Walker, also sent a letter to the teams, stating that Castillo never tested positive for steroids while at Northwestern. Castillo also obtained his drug testing history from Northwestern and provided it to the teams.

Scouts, Inc., had rated Castillo to be drafted in the mid-to-late vicinity of the second round.

This just means he will go in the 3rd or the 4th instead of the second IMO. He at least had the balls to step forward and say why he did it. And he wrote a letter to all teams. That\'s some guts right there. It takes a man to step up like that.
