A pro-bowler now... His 2018 contract voids. And his price goes up significantly. Does he remain a Saint next year?

I don’t think Ingram is looking for a huge contract so I think he’ll stay with the Saints.

Ingram's agent will be looking to get as huge a contract as is possible, as he should.

Are you serious? His contract voids next season if he's a pro bowler this year?

Sucks for us - good for Mark. He's earned it. Time to pay the man.

If that's the case, the Saints might have a hard time signing him and Drew. They're both going to want a truck load of money.

True, and both deserve it. Personally I'll worry about all that after we win the Super Bowl.

I doubt he sticks. Thinking we go get a Carlos Hyde for cheaper or work with what we got. I would take Hyde on a 1 year for cheaper and use the remaining coin to get another pass rusher.

There seems to be a little confusion about that. I know that spotrac.com says it voids if he makes either a pro-bowl or is an all-pro selection, but I read somewhere else a few weeks back that said it void if he is named first team all-pro at least once or makes the pro-bowl twice prior to 2018.

I'm not sure what is actually correct.

I found the source here. Mind like a steel trap. ;)

According to ESPN March 2015 -

Quote:

The deal also includes up to $200,000 in escalators for 2016, and $400,00 in escalators for 2017, based on rushing yards. And the final year can be voided with either two Pro Bowl selections or an All-NFL selection in 2017.

For sure I have no idea - don't know where I first read or heard about it. My link just turned up in a quick Google search.

Well regardless, I hope he's re-signed. I like MI. He's a great back and already has over 800 yards rushing this year. He should get 1100 or more easily this year.

I could be wrong but i believe he has the option to void it, the contract doesn't void automatically. Not that it matters much, because he'll want the payday which he deserves at this point.

So all-pro is the trigger, not pro-bowl (twice)?

Either way I think he'll choose to stay here, much to the Ingram hates chagrin.

This system has been built for him to thrive here. If he left the Saints then there would be a lot more obstacles to keeping these kind of numbers on another team. However, maybe the numbers in his check book are more important to him than the PFF numbers.

Seem's like there was a time when the big decision was whether to trade
Mark Ingram or Chris Ivory.

Saints RB Mark Ingram Could Become Free Agent If He’s First-Team All-Pro Selection

Quote:

Nick Underhill of the Advocate points out that Saints RB Mark Ingram has a clause in his contract that will make him an unrestricted free agent next year if he’s named a first-team All-Pro this year by the Associated Press.

It’s worth mentioning that the AP changed the rules for the running back position last year from two first-team running backs to one running back and one flex player.

Re: Mark Ingram named NFC Offensive Pla

Not to put Ingram down or discredit his performances, but the O-line has been tremendous in run blocking, especially that Bills' game.

I'm not saying that you could replace Ingram with any other RB in the league and receive better yardage with this O-line, but I bet there are few that could exceed what he has done in his place.

Let him walk if he wants too much money. We can drive the Kamara and find a thumper!

That's all way too far away for me to worry about yet.

Re: Mark Ingram named NFC Offensive Pla

Ingram has always been a very good RB. This year he's taken it up another big notch, IMO for these reasons:
1. Blocking - both O-line and down field blocking has been fantastic. Fleener & Hill are taking some crap for not producing receiving yardage but the down field blocking has been excellent and often it's one of them involved in blocking for a big gain.
2. Motivation - First Peterson, and then later with the emergence of Kamara. Like I said, Ingram was always very good, but he never had anyone to really push him to be better (IMO he was always equal or better than the other backs we had Cadet, Ivory, even PT). Peterson (by reputation at least) and Kamara (by raw talent) have threatened him and has pushed Mark to be his best.
3. Dedication to the run - We've seen flashes of it over the last couple of years, but this year SP has finally seen the light and is finally putting his faith in his running backs/running game first, not distant second. I couldn't imagine a game where we ran 20+ times in a row in a game prior to this season.

Next season's worries are for next season, let's enjoy the show for now, because it's damn entertaining.
