We unfortunately that would certainly be the case. Philly has a 2 game lead with 5 to go. Also their sole loss so far is an AFC loss to KC. So unless two of Seattle, New York Giants, Rams, and Dallas plunk losses on them, they win out on the Saints with conference record as we already have 2 conference losses.

As for Minnesota (and the Rams for that matter) each have a head to head win over the Saints. This means to get the bye we'd have to finish a game ahead of both of them.

Three way ties are not helpful either. The Saints now lose out on common opponents with Philly and Minnesota, and Minnesota wins out in a Saints, Vikings, Rams three way tie because the Vikings beat both the Saints and the Rams.

Swapping Seattle in may stir the pot a bit. Or possibly the rest of the NFC South may succeed in plunking losses on Minnesota.

But as of now, the Saints are in the 4th place division slot and likely would have to finish a game ahead of both Minnesota and the Rams in order to get the 2nd seed. So effectively we are 2 games behind Minnesota and a game behind the Rams.

But the point is moot. Can't bother worrying about anyone else. We effectively still have a 3 game season between now and the 17th. Wins over the Kitties, the Chokers, along with the Jets virtually secures the division because the sweep of the Kitties puts them effectively two games behind and puts both the Kitties and the Chokers two losses behind in the division loss column (with no way to win the head to head) with two games to go. The Saints would still have the opportunity to plunk another loss on the Chokers Christmas Eve which flat ends their hopes for the division. Finally those two play each other the last game of the season meaning that one or the other will get yet another loss and another division loss.

So the Saints have everything to play for. Every reason to start a new streak. Every reason to put cleats on the Kitties and Chokers throats and press down as firmly as possible.

Everything else will take care of itself as long as the Saints take care of their business.

Rugby Saint II likes this.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.
