Could Taysom Hill be the Saints' long-term successor for Drew Brees?

1 Attachment(s)
Taysom Hill has barely practiced at quarterback during his three months with the New Orleans Saints.

With Drew Brees the starter and No. 2 quarterback Chase Daniel primarily running the scout team in practice, Hill has received few practice repetitions since the Saints claimed him off waivers from the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 3.

So, when FOX broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman shared some insight into Saints coach Sean Payton's love of Hill's game on Sunday, it was a bit surprising.

"We've had the Saints two of the last three games, and in our production meetings with Sean Payton, we've spent more time talking about Taysom Hill than any other player on this roster," Aikman said during the Saints' win over the Carolina Panthers.

"Sean Payton absolutely loves him."

Buck went as far as saying that Payton relayed that the Saints already had Brees' quarterback successor "in the building."

"He not only likes Taysom Hill, he loves Taysom Hill. And their future quarterback is Taysom Hill," Aikman said.

Of course, the only reason Aikman and Buck had a reason to discuss Hill during the broadcast was that Payton made the inspired decision to use the third-string quarterback on special teams, and with the undrafted rookie making two tackles on special teams and coming close to blocking two punts.

I know the packers fans were not happy with losing him, many thought he’d replace Rodgers.

They tried to sneak him thru waivers, their loss our gain.
The obvious concern is that he’s already 27 years old. But QBs today can play into their late 30’s so we could get a solid 7 or 8 years from him.

Seems like we have upped our percentages in recruiting good quality young talent.
Taysom in our system working with Brees gives him a great opportunity. It's pretty
clear that Chase isn't Drew's long term replacement.

But Chase would probably be a solid 1-2 year stopgap until this kid is ready.

Only if our defense is top notch.

And our run game.

It’s all a little overblown. The first sentence even says he’s barely taken any reps in practice.

Wasn't Drew Brees 27 when he signed with the saints?
We all know what a mistake it was signing a QB that old coming off major throwing shoulder surgery!
We should have signed...........John Kitna or Josh McCown"

Seriously how can a 27 year old possibly be THE KID?

Ahhhhhhhhh WHAT IF?????????

The only stop gap is going to be Drew Brees. He'll be leading the Saints for at least the next three years.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline passes along that BYU QB Taysom Hill "turned in an incredible workout" during Friday's pro day.
Hill hasn't much been part of the draft conversation to date, but the aged quarterback's athletic testing on pro day might draw him a bit more interest down the stretch. Among the numbers turned in by the 6-foot-2, 221-pounder, a 40-yard dash of 4.44 seconds, a 38.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-2 broad jump. For context's sake, at the Combine those marks would have respectively ranked first (unseating Trevor Knight's 4.54-second 40), first (sorry again, Trevor -- Knight led Combine QB's with a 35.5-inch vertical) and third for quarterbacks. While Hill turns 27 in August and has a complicated (to put it kindly) medical history which could easily put him on the outside looking in when it comes to the draft, these strong testing results are a reminder that he has never lacked for athleticism. Taysom Hill - Brigham Young Cougars - 2017 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

What he's been asked to overcome is astounding. Hill suffered four season-ending injuries during his time in Provo, Utah, which included a knee injury, broken leg, a Lisfranc fracture and an hyperextended elbow.

Even so, the Idaho native finished his career with 6,929 passing yards and his 2,815 rushing yards rank fifth in the school's history. He added 75 total touchdowns and ran for more scores than any other BYU quarterback.

Hill's talent is undeniable. Since he entered the collegiate ranks in 2012, he was one of the college football's most dynamic quarterbacks. His body simply let him down.

It sounds like he's a great athlete........but a little too injury prone. I hope that's behind him.

And playing ST isn't gonna help him much with that
