1st and goal 1:43 left
Run the ball three times
Run out clock Get td running Or take the field goal Payton is too "put the dagger in" greedy instead of smart |
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
You’ve said it all.

Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
The refs beat us. Terrible throw by Brees but the refs killed us.
|
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
But we blew it at the end when it was well in our grasp
|
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
Should have seen this coming, Payton refused to run the ball for much of the second half.
|
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
I hated the call from Payton - that pass was designed for Jimmy Graham to the tight end. Hill is NO Jimmy Graham. He's supposed to go up and wrestle for the pass. Either it's a PI or a catch.

I don't agree with this thinking at all. We're on a short week, our defense is gassed, we had a ton of injuries and we have a HoF QB. Throwing the ball was the absolute right thing. Drew just made a terrible decision throwing a jump ball to Hill. If you want to criticize SP, he deserves to be crushed for not having a plan B once Kamara went down.

Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
I don't get it, I just don't get it. Even if we score there we give the ball back to Ryan with 1:30 left on the clock, a defense that's sucking wind and two timeouts. RUN THE DAMNED BALL, RUN THE DAMNED CLOCK DOWN AND IF YOU DON'T GET IN THE DAMNED ENDZONE KICK THE DAMNED FIELD GOAL AND TAKE YOUR DAMNED CHANCES IN OT!!!!!

Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
Bad play calling by Payton, but Drew was simply horrible in this game. Wouldn't step up in the pocket and throw a unnecessary risky throw that is intercepted. Ingram was open. I really think those interviews that was implying the team didn't have to rely on him, got to him.

A great comeback
Easily in our grasp Squandered |
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
Brees did the same thing vs Washington, threw a pick in a dire moment, however the refs called Holding and brought it back.

Problem is Brees had three Hot Dogs with double sauerkraut before Kickoff. He figured he would be handing the ball off all night.

Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
Throwing into triple coverage to a back up TE when other options would include Thomas and Coleman is just a bad decision.
FWIW, I'm not worried at all about Atlanta. They won't see the post season. |

That play lost us this game. We would have won BUT FOR THAT PLAY.
I feel pretty sure Payton feels like he should have his a$$ kicked right about now ( oh except for it's the refs fault ) and I would be happy to oblige. |

Gotta get inside of the defender and yes. If Hill cant catch it he should take Jones head off. Take the penalty. Kick the field goal. Deion Jones was everywhere. I dont think he started until his senior year and he was never a standout at LSU. Jesuit LB, LSU LB. He should be a Saint. Could we use a great cover 4.3 40 LB? He put Kmara out the game and caught the winning interception. Give him the game ball and well see him in two weeks in the dome. |
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
How is this not illegal contact on the failclowns?
The refs had to have made a group decision to not flag the failclowns for a single defensive penalty! |

If anything, Josh needed to make a better attempt to go get the football or take it away from Jones. You're 6'5 man. |

If you throw that pass, you make it a back shoulder, either Hill catches it or no one does. Brees made it look like Jones was the intended receiver. Ingram was wide open too. Just rewatched the game, besides the opening 7 points of the second half after Banjo's pick, Brees and the offense should be ashamed of themselves. They did nothing for 29 mins, came alive in the final minute and fell short. Brees couldn't string a pass together the entire second half. I hope we win out, because we could be forced out of the playoff race if we keep splitting wins/losses. |

As for the replay, I haven't stopped watching it, Brees has to realise that Josh Hill in no way is on the same level as Deion Jones. Brees tested Jones last year and ended up throwing a 95 yard Pick 6 to him. |

My point was that it wasn't such a horrible throw as it was a horrible decision. Hill isn't Graham. And it does look like had Hill not allowed himself to get pushed back he would have been in position to make the play. |

Right call to go for the kill. Stupid call throwing it where it was thrown. It happens. They will get destroyed in the Dome. |
Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
Looking at the replay isn’t there a little bit of interference there? 1000 bucks says we would have been flagged for it.
Looking again maybe more of a hold. |

Brees needs another play band on his other arm with the time and picture of the pick that says NO.

Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
I understand the argument that the D was too gassed to risk OT. But how can you say that going for the win right there was the right thing to do? If the D is too gassed for OT then how were they supposed to stop Ryan, Julio, and Sanu with a minute and a half plus two timeouts. They would have went through us like a hot knife through butter. I say run the ball two, maybe three times and kick the FG if you don't get in. At least then there's the chance that the D never has to set foot on the field again if we win the toss and score a TD. Or at the very least they have a little time to catch their breath if the falcons won the toss. Using the D was tired argument to justify going for the win doesn't work. Less time on the clock I get it but not a minute and a half with a D that could barely move at this point.

Re: 1st and goal 1:43 left
Should Drew throw that pass tp Hill? debatable
I want to point out Hill did a poor job of defending the interception. Hill is a back up and probably never be more than that and the fan love for him needs to calm down. TE needs to be addressed. |
