Question for the Forum

What if the Texans had drafted Reggie Bush instead of Mario Williams?

Would the Saints have drafted Williams?

(I corrected post)

Re: Question for the Forum

Um. Mario Williams, not Watt. Watt was drafted 11th in 2011 5 years after Williams and Bush.

Re: Question for the Forum

I'm pretty sure yes. I think the Saints expected Texas to take Bush and we were prepared to select Williams w the 2nd pick.

SI

Loomis and Payton figured they were in line for N.C. State defensive end Mario Williams or Virginia offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson. Then the Saints’ brain trust found out over dinner Friday night that the Texans had agreed to a deal with Williams.

Im still sweatin that corner we took in the 2nd rd instead of Jarvis Landry. He aint in the league. Landry and Thomas would be a sensational duo.

Brandin Cooks
SJB :flush:
Khari Forte
Vinnie Sunseri
Ronald Powell
Tavon Rooks

With the exception of BC, that was a pretty awful draft class.

Side note - SJB was recently picked up by the Ravens.

Holy crap this class was horrible.

Re: Question for the Forum

Payton needed another offensive toy.
Say what you will, it would have been difficult to make up for Reggie's open field production.
Just like it has been difficult to make up for Cooks production.
Not having drafted Reggie would have reshaped the space-time continuum.
We would have been a whole different Black&Gold with an endless array of combinations and outcomes.

We aren’t missing Cooks.

Yes we are. One of our main problems on offense is we have 0 players that can stretch the field.

Re: Question for the Forum

D'Brickashaw Ferguson - that was my pick. A boring old line man to protect Drew. I was not sold on what we had believe it or not. hind sight Bush was the right pick.

Short list that year
D'Brickashaw Ferguson
A.J. Hawk
Reggie Bush
Michael Huff
Haloti Ngata

Re: Question for the Forum

i remember (my self included) many fans being disappointed in not getting Williams. I am also glad that no one listens to me. and why i rarely chime in. I have a fondness of our (perspective wise) recent string of Running Backs in the post winning a play off game era. From "Run Ricky Run" to having two TWO RBs in the pro bowl. and I love the as a color commentator.

I disagree 100% with this thought! Stretching the field is Ginn's forte and with Coleman, Thomas, and Kamara's yards after the catch ability we have the opportunity for big plays spreading the ball around rather than looking solely for Cooks...

I want a taller version of Cooks. Ginn has amazed me but he is not the shiftiest route runner out there,

I really like how far Coleman has come

Re: Question for the Forum

Coleman has had some great plays. He really blocks and he breaks tackles, something our other WRs including Thomas have not done.

Which is 100% OK with your 4th WR.

We need a solid #2 or #3 guy to scare defenses.

Ginn is that guy this year when healthy.

We basically need a younger version of Ginn to solidify the WR position.

Nothing wrong with Coleman, he's a solid #4. I'm more disappointed with Snead. He looked like the ideal #2 or #3 guy last year, but took a huge step back this year.

I think he's the most disappointing player on offense so far this year.

Re: Question for the Forum

Our offense is missing a solid Tight End.
Even when Fleener was playing earlier in the season, that 4th threat was available and the offense was more dangerous.

I hope we draft a tight end this year or bring in a vet in offseason.
