Hats off to Dennis Allen

Didn't think for a second he could turn the D around but was wrong. I absolutly hate eating crow but in this case I really don't mind. The D has won us a few games from time to time and has been strong enough to keep us in it most games which is good enough for me. The additions of a front line coach and a lb. coach has helped out a great deal. I'm not saying he's a great DC but decent enough. Hats off to him and the rest of the D's coaching staff!!

I believed in him. He turned around a previously bad Denver defense in one year. Granted there was good talent to work with, but every coach needs that, period. We finally got him some of the talent he needs to make this a truly great defense. Hoping he stays at least another year and we get another solid draft class and a key free agent or two. I could easily see this defense being top 5 next year if all goes well.

Add a pass rusher, another stud LB and some DB depth, and we're rock solid.

On Offense I think we really need a TE or another hi-Q receiver, and we're rock solid-er!

I didn't like the highering. I thought he was just another one of Payton's guys. I thought he sucked in Oakland.

The key to tolerating a big heaping of crow is a little division championship on the side.

Allen gets too much credit - it's the new hires that really jump-started this thing...

Mike Nolan replaces Vitt, Ryan Nielsen replaced Bill Johnson and Aaron Glenn in his second year replacing McGriff...

These guys along with Ireland's impact in the draft is where the credit is due; very fortunate Lattimore fell out of the Top 5...

Better talent to coach up, solid assistant coaches and acquiring solid free agents helps too ;) .

Team effort.

I think he’s had more talent to work with since any defensive coordinator we have had since Williams. The assistant coaches are a better lot than I can ever remember having.

Dennis Allen never forgot how to coach. He didn't have the talent he needed to coach.

True Dat! Allen schemes well and if everyone follows their assignment we have a good defense.

We have one in Davison, but another one wouldn't suck.

Davison and Vea would make a great rotation. Mix and match on the interior.

Best draft class I can think of. Ever.

It's amazing what talent can do.

It's a combo of many things... Allen was one of them. Good free agents, good draft.

If it wasn't for all the damn injuries, the D would have been even better.

As an armchair observer (and from my tiny cramped flip-up seat in the Dome terrace), I always felt like the problem was more some bad eggs and poor discipline, poor attitude on the players' side of things, plus the usual suspects in the assistant coaching on defense that were holding us back every year....Allen is good but the changes in attitude and work ethic of the players on the field, is the biggest major difference that I see, more than any brilliant re-arranging of X's and O's, or mad scientist coaching strategy. Not calling out any names, but we had a lot of guys on the defensive side of the team the past few years who were hanging out at Republic Club at all hours of the morning, the VIP room of the club, and acting like they were on the TV show "Ballers." That never works in real life football.

I would like to see us healthy. Articles keep saying we are down 3 starters but its a lot more than that. Its more like 7. I think considering that he has done a excellent job.

Re: Hats off to Dennis Allen

DA got handed a mess from players to coaches to make his 43 defense work

year one was a revue period and trying to sort through the trash at all levels.

He dumped the stinkiest garbage and added the new garbage pickers in coaches.

DA has his list of needs that he and his coaches have come up with. They have a pretty good idea of the players they want to fill those needs. The scouts have been busy learning the type of players these coaches want.

Now he has to get Jeff to go out and get players that fill those needs.

Jeff has to balance SP and DA wants and desires.

I can not wait for the 2018 off season to start, after we win the super bowl.

So far the staffing on defense is looking to be fabulous.

I would tend to agree with this. Allen has never done anything to impress me schematically, or in game planning. We all thought the assistant hires would make a big difference, and after a slow start, apparently they did make a difference, along with a few personnel additions.

Everybody still talks trash about Spagnuolo and how he needs talent to succeed, and yet Allen is getting tons of credit with better talent, and a better staff. I don't get the double standard.

I think our defense hasn't hit it's high point yet. In a few years we could be winning with defense as the focal point, though we aren't quite at that stage yet.

Just a question, where do you guys think Breaux fits when he returns?

No knock on Delvin but he'll be on the outside looking in. Crawley has already outproduced him after year #2. A lot of us (myself included) have no earthly idea what type of player Breaux will be going forward. I've tempered my expectations. If he resembles the 2015 player form, I'll be elated. Having 3, 4 solid corners this time of year is crucial. Training camp will be telling for him.

At this point, he's depth. Just get healthy again.
