Will Drew Brees retire?

If Drew gets his second ring, and plays like he did against Carolina for the rest of the playoffs do you think he retires?

His contract is up, and with 3 more MVP playoff games it would be hard for him to not contemplate retirement. In my opinion he comes back even if this scenario occurs and competes for another 2-4 years.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Nope, he's too competitive.

He will play until they cart him off the field.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Brees will not retire if he wins his second Super Bowl this year.

Agree with this.

However, if I were him I would retire. Finish right on the top of your game and auto hall of famer.

Brees is already a 1st ballot HOFer even if he never plays another down of pro football. There's nothing he can do at this point to change that, good or bad.

He said he will play into his 40's.
If not in Nola, then whoever else will have him.
I get the feeling he and Brady will play until 42 or 43 then they will slow down.

Drew's arm is strong and his touch is still touch.
I think Drew will be in Nola so long as Sean Payton is here, until Drew retires.

Yes he will. Just not right away.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Considering how he has been disrespected by the sports media’s love affair with Manning, Brady and every rising star rookie, I thing Brees is going to play -

1 - as long as he continues to perform to his own standards
2 - until he owns about every QB record in the books
3 - until the majority of his record numbers are "untouchable" by mortals

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

I think Brees needs a 2nd ring, hoping they get the **** together and win it this year.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

He will be back next season for all of the reasons stated above Plus... You dont make it to 1485 yards, 78 completions, and 51 TDs shy of all time records and call it a day.

At minimum he plays two more seasons to break Manning's Passing TD record, then his previously mentioned competitiveness kicks in and he tries to outlast Brady to retain the titles.

Would you turn your nose up at 60+ million dollars to retire at 39?

Me neither.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

My eyes have seen a lot of Saints games and I thought I'd be dead before we ever won a
SuperBowl. Katrina hits and the next thing we are hearing is San Antonio. Those were
dark days as most here have lived through. Then this ex Charger QB comes to town
everything changes, no more Aints.
So yeah I'm hoping Drew sticks around for a few more years.

billyt81 01-09-2018 01:27 AM

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Brees will break every all time passing record before he retires. Make no mistake. He wants this. He is under 6 ft tall. He's never given the credit of the other QBs and all he can do to earn respect is to ball. After he breaks all of Peyton Manning's and Dan Marino's passing records, he'll consider retiring. Probably closer to 45 than 40.......Of course with a ring in 09 and 17 at least. WhoDat!

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Say we and the Falcons win and he gets a NFC Championship game at home..wins

Goes to Minnesota in the superbowl wins

You could not have a better script to walk away

Wouldn't blame him either

But i think he would think

Get the rest of the records and more importantly

Why not back to back

And bingo, there it goes. No way he retires after putting in a lifetime worth of work, then retires being so close to all time records. No way.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

I feel this is the beginning of a 5 year window for the Saints. That means this year and then for the next 4 years, the Saints should be in a position to be considered Superbowl contenders. Brees should have a legitimate shot at getting 2 more rings, no way he retires if he stays healthy and effective.

jeanpierre 01-09-2018 06:28 AM

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

He doesn't retire because he'll have the All-Time PaYd record probably by Week 4 of next year...

If he had that record, I do think he'd seriously consider retiring while on top, but not with so many records there for the taking...

Mardigras9 01-09-2018 07:35 AM

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

After the season he just had? No way, superbowl or not, he actually has a run game to help now, he extends for 2 more years and retires a Saint, this season has secured that now.

The Dude 01-09-2018 08:09 AM

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Not at this point. If this was another 7-9 season I have no doubt he would have gone elsewhere. I honestly don’t think he’s lost much as far as his game. He’s just got a lot less to work with besides running game

Actually, he has said on MANY occasions that not only is he planning on playing well into his 40's, but he is also going to play the rest of that career in New Orleans. I for one believe him. He has no desire to play anywhere else. Hell, he has no reason to play anywhere else. His best chance of continuing to win is with the Saints. Why go anywhere when the roster is built for HIM to win and anywhere else is a total unknown. That make no sense whatsoever.

I really want them to extend Ingram also. He has been a great teammate and mentor to the future of our team the Kamaro.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

I don't see him retiring after this year. The QB's who retire and go out "on top" after winning a Super Bowl, or after a deep playoff run, is actually a pretty tiny minority of QB's, it's really a very minuscule percentage who do that. My suspicion is that he already has something silently in mind in his head, a scenario worked out in collaboration with Brittany and Tom Condon, where he is going to reach that certain point and then he's done. But it ain't now.

Me neither.

Drew could make more off the field giving speeches/commentating at events writing books and doing endorsements.

If he gets into politics there is a lot of money there as well...

Add the above to the fact Drew has enough money to take care of generations of his family, and I don't think money would be his deciding factor.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

This year's O-line play and running game prolonged his career by at least another year.
Fewer hits, less wear and tear on his arm, and maybe even less stress knowing someone else (defense too) can shoulder some of the load- all factors

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Just wait until next years draft, this team is going to be extremely fun to watch for a while.

I honestly don't know what will happen to Brees, but I finally have faith that management know what they are doing.

If Brees does go, we have a defense that should only get better and a very talented young roster to surround the future QB.

If Brees doesn't go, we just have to address a few areas and we'll be dominant!

There is no where near that much money in politics. Well maybe in New Orleans but it ain’t legit.
Most higher ups don’t clear more than 500,000.

Not the point. Would you turn down ~60 million to retire at 39? Nope. And neither would I.

Drew isn't retiring. If I had a farm I'd bet it.

I think it will all come down to what the grand plan is for FA in the off season. TE and slot WR might be high on Drews list.

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Why?

As long as he is healthy & not really taking horrid hits all the time he should be good to go for a few more years. Thats a lot of money to be had! A LOT.

Rugby Saint II 01-10-2018 02:25 PM

Re: Will Drew Brees retire?

Why would he retire? We have a good young team with decent depth that should only get better next year. Why not try for a couple of more rings?
