Re: Bulletin Board: The 800 lbs Gorilla In The Room Is Being Awfully Quiet...
The NFL cracked down severely on the Saints and many of their players and coaches after an investigation revealed a bounty program with cash payouts to players who injured opponents. The game most frequently cited as an example of the Saints attempting to injure an opponent was the NFC Championship Game victory over the Vikings after the 2009 season.
Now a player who was on that Vikings team is saying Minnesota ran a similar bounty program. Artis Hicks, an offensive lineman on the 2009 Vikings, told Jeff Pearlman, the author of a new Brett Favre biography, that the Vikings were doing the same thing that got the Saints busted. “It was part of the culture,” Hicks said, in a book excerpt published by Deadspin. “I had coaches start a pot and all the veterans put in an extra $100, $200, and if you hurt someone special, you get the money. There was a bottom line, and I think we all bought in: you’re there to win, and if taking out the other team’s best player helps you win, hey, it’s nothing personal. Just business.” Artis Hicks: Vikings had a bounty program like the Saints’ – ProFootballTalk |

I bet all the other teams where doing the same thing. I still hate Roger to this day. We could've had a Superbowl at home. Now we need to stop the vikequeens from doing it.

Most teams had bounty-like programs.
Back in 2012 my team in Sweden had an american DL named Aki Jones that played for GW with the Washington Redskins who told me they had the same type of program there. |

Joe Horn said the Failclowns had the same thing when he was there. As I have stated many times before, every team had some sort of defensive performance pool and NONE of them ever had bounties on players.

Now......on the other hand I don't doubt that it occurred with frequency with other teams though! |

We didn't have one(I know for a fact) but I don't doubt in a highly physical and competitive league that it did not happen with frequency elsewhere.

The amount of money involved is like a handful of car change. It's so stupid and not even worth mentioning compared to their salaries. It's like winning Fantasy Football. It's for fun, entertainment, bragging rights. Most FF leagues the winnings are in the hundreds of dollars. It will have no impact financially other than maybe buying a couple of good meals and a nice pair of shoes and knowing everyone acknowledges you for having the best team. You the man.
