It seems unlikely that Fairley will return, though that has not yet been confirmed. And it's unclear what the Saints' financial obligation will be if he is released from his contract. He was originally supposed to be owed $5 million in guaranteed salary and bonuses this year.

Fleener is owed $6.4 million in salary and bonuses this year -- $3.4 million of which is guaranteed for injury only and is scheduled to become fully guaranteed in March. It seems highly unlikely that he will stay with the Saints unless they work out a pay cut, since his role in the offense has been smaller than expected when he signed a five-year, $36 million deal in 2016. The Saints would still be charged $4.8 million in dead money over the next year or two if they release Fleener.

Strief is owed $4 million in salary and bonuses. But he is 34, missed almost all of last season with a knee injury and his replacement is on the roster (Ryan Ramczyk). Strief is a highly valued leader who could be an ideal backup like Kelemete. But retirement could also be an option. He would leave $1.1 million in dead money.

Kikaha is owed just $1.15 million in the final year of his contract, so he could definitely come back despite battling injuries and a reduced role this season.

I had no idea Wafford was paid that much.
There should be a rule that if a player can’t play anymore due to injury the team gets off the hook for the dead money. I’m talking about Fairly. Especially because it’s non football related. They should get the money they are owed but not effect the cap in any way. Same with a player who retires.
I don’t get why Fairlys issue didn’t come out before the contract was signed.

I don’t get why Fairlys issue didn’t come out before the contract was signed.
That why they hold out for longer contracts with high guarantees in case they are injured. However, some contracts might have clauses that let the team off the hook for non job related injuries, a person health is not included. That's why they give the physicals and health exams. Oschner just drop the ball totally on Saints players, Breaux come to mind. That don't stop team from cutting or starting up a settlement agreement to save on future income. I believe the saints will have a settlement agreement with Fairley if there is no progress in his condition and bite the bullet on majority of the guarantees

Why the hate on Larry, hag a great year for us. Kelemente is a must. Cut fleecer, snead, and Breaux I mean maybe a one year deal and let him compete, but he has basically missed two years.

KV is the one I am not sure about. He is not as bad as some say he is on here. He started getting beat more and then suddenly was on IR. My guess would be he started battling injuries, but with him Bell, and Williams we have a solid backend. I just don't know what you have without him. Really depends on the cost.

I am not sure we could trade Armistead with all the injuries, but man that guy, as good as he is, is always ****ing limping or falling down mid-game, missing games, etc. I'd pay a portion of his salary to get rid of him and draft or sign a guard.

I wouldn't mind seeing us resign strief for one more year as a backup. Hopefully he will want to come back in a reserve roll and save us some money.

Players that might Geaux

Breaux a team like the Rams might take a chance and overbid the saints if the saints don't set a 1st rd tender offer. Chances are slim that they will offer that unless they try to trade him. Reasons, Crawley performance on the outside was exceptional but his game as a nickel corner would be risky, I just can't see him in run support. 2nd P.J. Williams had his ups and down, he will be a solid nickel for less.


Strief will be a quality back up but I don't foresee him willing to take a big pay cut.

Fleener, he probably will except to renegotiate his contract. The pay and terms just won't suffice and he will be waived


Vaccarro, great leader, play more like a lb will have to weigh his option. The saints will offer him a contract but other teams will offer him pennies more if he hit the market.

To me Kelemete is a priority; he was invaluable. He is an RFA, which helps.
Strief seems likely to stay with the organization in some capacity, and I could see him taking $3 mill as a backup.

I think this topic needs it's own thread.

KV is not a consistent safety. A good game here, but too many poor ones.
Correct me if I'm wrong but has yet to play a 16 game season.
Bell is "reasonable" enough to substitute for SS & Saints are better off drafting an athletic LB to do what he has been doing most of the season.

5, 6 years in ... Kenny isn't going to transform his game into Troy Polomolu.

I have no hate for the guy, but I want us to improve at the position. It ain't my money, but if it was I'd spend it elsewhere.

It's really difficult to figure out, Malcolm Jenkins was exactly the same. Amazing plays, then boneheaded ones. All of a sudden we sign Byrd, and Jenkins becomes All Pro in Philly and we have the worst D for 3 years straight.

Vaccaro was playing decent before his injury and it really affected him, but as you said, he's never completed a full season.
