NFL rejects veterans group's Super Bowl ad urging people to stand for the anthem
The National Football League has rejected a Super Bowl advertisement from American Veterans urging people to stand for the national anthem.
The nation's largest veterans service organization had been invited by the NFL to place an ad in the Super Bowl LII program. AMVET's advertisement included a two-word message - "#PleaseStand." "It's a simple, polite request that represents the sentiment of our membership, particularly those whose missing or paralyzed limbs preclude standing," wrote National Commander Marion Polk in a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. American Veterans accused the NFL of outright censorship by rejecting the advertisement. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy defended the league's decision to ban the American Veterans' advertisement noting that the game day program "is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams and the Super Bowl." "It's never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement," McCarthy told Army Times. So, the NFL believes that politely asking people to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner is akin to making a political statement? read more here |

That is just sad..........

So let me get this straight. The NFL reaches out to AMVETS, not the other way around. Yet, they reject the ad? If that's the entire story what a bogus move.

Re: NFL rejects veterans group's Super Bowl ad urging people to stand for the anthem
I did all the Super Bowl crap (or some of it) when it was out here in San Francisco...was that last year, or year before? Yawn. It's definitely not geared for people like me.
Anyway 1 it's bunk and 2 the NFL doesn't want any drama like this. They'll ignore there was ever an issue and hope the rest of us choose to forget - that's their business. I follow the Saints, not the NFL, so I'm in a good spot. Not bothered. Not offended. Don't care. I hope the commercials don't suck and I hope Brady throws a game-ending pick 6. :bng: |

Re: NFL rejects veterans group's Super Bowl ad urging people to stand for the anthem
I wouldn't surprised if the NFL rejects a lot of advertisers, period. They have their who's who list of preferred advertisers that fit their current agenda and if you're not on the list then you're not going to get your ad shown. They have a whitelist and blacklist on who gets to advertise. The perception that just anybody gets to advertise if they pony up the money is nonsense. Just remember, the NFL was showing FanDuel and DraftKings ads left and right a few years ago and now you won't see a one, no matter what those companies are offering to pay. This is a lot bigger than shunning a veterans group, it's about systematic control of their broadcast, commercials included.

Willing to bet this will be the lowest viewed Super Bowl in the last 10 years.

This is the sort of sh1t that tugs on a string that keeps a veterans rage in check.
That said, I must ask.. Who is funding this? @5.5M per 30s there are some deep pockets and that money could be much better put to use helping our veterans. |

I just signed up to work from 11 to 7pm on the Super Bowl and will volunteer to stay later if needed. It's a win win for me.

The swamp draining will be starting shortly.

Re: NFL rejects veterans group's Super Bowl ad urging people to stand for the anthem
I took off of work for the Super Bowl and really would like to see it. But if the NFL is going to do stuff like this, then I have no problem popping in my copy of the Saints/Colts SB and just watching that. I think, unless they change their minds on this, they can expect low ratings. Probably the lowest ratings they've ever had for a SB. If that happens, then Goodell and the front office are going to have to do a lot of soul searching this offseason.

And those funds should go to the Wounded Warrior Project or any LOCAL direct aid to veterans... But I'll tell you this, if the NFL is going to let a liberal opinion be presented of an issue and deny a conservative opinion, they can can all the red states buh-bye... |
