Not having Linebacker listed within the top 3 of team "needs" is puzzling to me. We are slow at the position.

This article perfectly encapsulates what several of us have known and posted here for years - outside media doesn't get it...

Not that any of us should take Brees for granted, but Brees' contract will not dominate our offseason...

If anything, it may be that Brees may not have his contract done until after the first, or even second, wave of free agency...

It'll be a wait and see what the team does to secure more talent for a legit championship run...

But you're absolutely dead-on about the real needs of this team in Free Agency - and I don't think WR is that high...

And I still think we need a DT3 as Rankins seems overwhelmed by double teams and may find a life as a Defensive End...

He obviously disagrees with me about O-line being a top priority. We have too many question marks across the front line. Can Armstead get relatively healthy? How long can Unger compete now that he will be 34 next year? Who is his eventual replacement? He was known for his injury histroy before coming here but how long can that last? Is Strief coming back? What will we do with Kelemete now that he's a free agent? Who is the next viable option to start if one starter goes down. None of our home grown developmental talent impresses me.

It's hard to miss with a first round O-lineman unlike so many other positions. We've been drafting linemen high and it's paying off. When contracts come due we will still have quality players if we let a free agent walk and possibly get a comp pick.

In a dream world we would sign Demarcus Lawrence
Trent Murphy is a a more likely scenario
A three down stud LB that can cover is on my wish list and Nigel Bradham would fit that need
If Vaccaro is not resigned LaMarcus Joyner would be my pick to fill his hole and an upgrade!
I could see us signing a second tier WR to replace Snead , Moncrief or Paul Robinson could be economical additions.
TE Trey Burton is a player of interest.
Sheldon Richardson is a DL that would be a difference maker for us

Drew’s contract has to be done by the start of the new league year on 3/14 or we’re hit with $18 million in dead cap for 2018 plus whatever cap space his new contract would take up.

I was thinking the O-Line on the top of the list as well. We got exposed early on with injuries and not so great depth.
The good work from Ingram and Kamara kept us out of a lot of pressure passing situations.

Can't happen this time. If Brees isn't extended by the time free agency starts, the Saints are on the hook for $18 million on the salary cap whether they resign him or not after that.

It has to be done before March 14th, not after free agency starts.
