Free-agent safety Kurt Coleman visits with Saints
 
The New Orleans Saints are wasting no time in their pursuit of free agents that could help their defense in 2018.

Safety Kurt Coleman, whom the Carolina Panthers cut on Monday, was meeting with Saints officials at an Indianapolis restaurant on Thursday night to discuss a potential fit in New Orleans. Coach Sean Payton was among the people sitting in on the meeting.

The 29-year-old Coleman spent the past three years with the Panthers and started 42 games, but Carolina cut him to free salary cap space before free agency begins in two weeks.

Coleman came to Indianapolis during the NFL combine because he's drawing interest from multiple teams, according to a league source. Per an ESPN report, the Giants and Bills are among the potential suitors.

You never know. Kurt will come cheap (2.5M cap), he's a ball hawk & high IQ player. Good depth role to Williams/Bell & good mentor to the young guys.

I'd prefer Coleman over Bush if I had a choice.

He reminds me of Dave Waymer(RIP) Great hands and ball skills for a safety. Smart player. Solid tackler. Average athleticism. Definetely sign him.

Go ahead Billy-Ed! Now many guys around here anymore remember Dave Waymer!

Don't think a draft season went by Hagan didn't compare one prospect to Waymer...

DAVID WAYMER, PLAYED CORNERBACK IN COLLEGE (NOTRE DAME) AND THE SAINTS MOVED HIM TO SAFETY IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.

BUT NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE "LITTLE 0" OBERT LOGAN AS THE MOST REMEMBERED SAINTS SAFETY!!!

Waymer played cornerback from 1980, when he was drafted, through 1988; he only played Free Safety for the Saints for one year (1989), Gene Atkins took over at SS, Brett Maxie moved to the bench...

I asked the same question ...

Teams can agree on terms but cannot sign a contract until 3/14/2018 @ 4 pm EST ;).
