WR DJ Clark... should we?

I know... I know... he's an LSU player. But has SP turned the corner?

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

In rd 3 I would. Kids got great overall skill. He actually fits in what SP plan has always been. Might be the first LSU player in a while SP drafts early.

He made a lot of money for himself this weekend. I don't see him lasting pass the top of the second round. I think he would add a dynamic skill set to our offense. Tall, explosive, great leaping ability, and size, good run blocking....and can fly! I would love yourself CJ work with him. Mike on one side a DJ on the other?!?!? Dangerous!!!!

With that being said...if he is the best player on our board than I'm all for it but I hoping for a LB/DE with our first pick.

In which round?

At pick 27, absolutely not.

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

Love Chark, but no; we've still got too many priorities in the front seven and we need interior offensive line depth badly...

Besides there' are plenty of good wide receivers available to complement @CantGuardMike in the fourth, fifth rounds...

And we really have to make sure we plan, spread the cap money to several positions...

Not this year-to-year cap crisis the Mickster was rubber-stamping for Payton's erratic personnel moves...

fingers crossed he drop to us in the 3rd, highly unlikely. However, I would've never predicted Marshon to drop to the 11th overall pick

I’m thinking mid to late second. It seems rd 2 is when a run on defensive players happen. 4 wr expected in rd 1. He’s definitely 2nd tier right behind those guys.

He’s a 2nd rounder. We don’t have one. But if he’s the best player on the board at 27, take him. Go best player regardless.

I agree with ya Rez. Best player available. We can fill in the few holes after the draft.

There's no way he's the best player available at #27.

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

I think Chark at pick #27 is about right actually. DJ Chark is a similar athlete to Julio Jones. There's no doubt he can run deep routes. He can turn short curls into big gains. He's more athletic than Odell Beckham and Beckham went in the 1st. The ,"we need another position" argument is retarded. If Julio Jones was there at 27 would you say, "nah. Wrong position?" That type of thinking is what gets you Stanley Jean Baptiste instead of Jarvis Landry.

If LSU had a real QB, I just wonder what his numbers would be like and hence his draft slotting guesstimate?

DJ is not in the same stratosphere as the likes of Julio & Odell coming out of college. Too many unknowns (inconsistent separation, route recognition & field awareness). They were much more polished receivers leading up to the draft. He's not even on par with Michael Thomas in terms of route tree & he went in the 2nd.

As for the SJB pick and the rest of that class, that was on Ryan Pace's scouting dept (probably why he is no longer employed in NO).

Again, he struggles the most on his routes & used his speed to get past most defenders in the SEC. LSU never ran complicated routes. It won't come that easy in the NFL. In Sean Payton's complex offense, I don't see him on our draft board.

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

He will need much work route running but he's better than Cooks IMO. Big man, great returner, good hands and the speed. Probably goes early in the 2nd so not going to happen. We will have better talent available at 27.

I like Chark he also has some KR skills but I would not pick him until later rd 4th earliest decent depth at WR in this draft. Greater need at other positions

I'm sorry but this entire post is laughable. DJ Chark will be drafted higher than Mike Thomas was. Mike Thomas final season at Ohio State-56 catches, 781yds, 13.9yd avg. DJ Chark catching balls from Danny Etling-40 catches, 874 yds, 21.9 yd avg(#1 in SEC) 2 punt returns for TD(#1 in SEC). DJ Chark 4 34 40-fastest WR in the draft, running a faster 40 than Julio Jones and AJ Green. DJ Chark 6"3 with a 40" vertical(best WR vert in the draft) DJ Chark MVP of the Senior Bowl with 5 catches for 160 yds. His route running and seperation looked OK in that game. I think ya'll are listening to Mel Kiper too much. Whenever Chark's number was called, he produced. He is absolutely sensational with the ball in his hands. Name me another guy who led the SEC in punt return TDs who is 6"3. Cruize says he won't be the best player available at pick #27. He has the talent to be the best player in the draft, plus he's known to be a high character guy and a hard worker. K Major, I played WR for Danny Abramowicz. I studied and practiced route running A LOT. You say LSU never ran complicated routes. What does that even mean? The route tree, which everyone uses has 10 routes-0-9. Of course some guys run these routes better than others but you'll have to explain to me what a complicated route is. Then you question his "route recognition" That is not even a term used in football and I say if you lead the SEC in yards per catch, you obviously have good "field awareness" another term I've never heard. Bottom line-Chark's measurables say he's Terell Owens or Randy Moss. I'm sorry. More athletic than Randy Moss. Both 6"3. Moss 194lbs/Chark 199lbs, Moss hands 9.63 inches/Chark 9.25", 40yd dash Moss 4.38/Chark 4.34, vertical leap Moss 33"/Chark 40", broad jump Moss 117"/Chark 129" Throw in his 16 bench press reps and he's literally one of the best physical specimens to ever attend the combine. Period. LSUs pass offense was woeful. Not Chark's fault. Still he had more yds his final college season than Mike Thomas and AJ Green and was the most dangerous punt returner in the SEC. I'm gonna remind ya'll about this every time DJ. Chark ends up on Sports Center after another sensational TD. I pray he's wearing Black and Gold. WhoDat!

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

Billy81, some on here are comparing him to Julio. The physical attributes are there but Julio was the 6th overall pick for a reason. DJ won't even be in the top 20 and it's highly probable a couple of WR's go before him.

You may be right, maybe he does blow up on the field but there are so many factors, just like at LSU that will dictate his impact. I hope he does well and he would with Brees but we are not getting him at 27. Too many other needs and players that can fill those right now.

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

He's been dominating all off season starting with the Senior Bowl. I love Chark but given how stacked the WR free agent market appears, and some quality mid round guys that look to be available, I'd probably pass. But if the Saints decided to go this route, I certainly wouldn't complain.

He's caught everything and has shown better hands this off season then people even thought he had. You can go back and look at the Bama game... he was practically uncoverable. He just needed a quarterback. There are flaws in his game but I think that's part of his appeal as well. He hasn't peak and the ceiling is sky high.

Beastmode 03-06-2018 08:28 AM

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

I'm not against it either. With Brees on the other end, then improving special teams. A lot of value with him but going to be hard to pass on immediate needs. If we get a couple of starting defenders we are back in the playoffs and it looks like this draft will give it to us just like last year with all the QB's going early. It also looks like RB's will also be going early with the rookie explosion last year. Everyone will be looking for the next Hunt, Kamara, LF.

Re: WR DJ Clark... should we?

For me one of the things that puts him in the discussion is that he will run block as well as take the top off a defense. Now, he wasn’t asked to run a lot of shallow routes across the middle but everything Billy81 said it spot on and most importantly he is a hard worker not a diva like Cooks and so many other WRs.
