Saints among teams planning private workout with Baker Mayfield

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Chad Forbes @NFLDraftBites Give Sean Payton truth serum.... He’d roll with Baker Mayfield over Drew Brees. Sean’s been infatuated with Johnny Manziel since A&M Days. And his new QB crush is Baker Mayfield. It’s a joke amongst other coaches/ execs....

I just have a bad feeling about Drew. No way it should take this long. Monday he can start talks to other teams and Wednesday we get a 18 million capbhit reguardless.

I think Brees will be here still... But I’m getting very, very nervous that we’re going to trade up for Mayfield.

That’s what has me thinking more lol. Mayfield has been described as the next Drew. I just want to keep the Drew we have!

Drew is not taking a pay cut. Market value. We have to wait for some other deals to pan out to see his market value. Will someone offer more? Yes! Someone will offer more. Will we match it. Yes. To a point. If it exceeds that point then we are probably blowing the draft on a QB. Pretty much have to do it at that point.

Problem is we can’t wait until a few others set the market. Drew has to be signed by Tuesday night or we get an 18 million cap hit no matter what. Even if Drew signs some where else we still have 18 mil I’m dead cap. He has the saints by the balls. I feel he signs by Monday or he’s gone. Really expect him to sign with all the “ Saint for life” talk he’s done.

I just don't see him making any deal without knowing market value. If he has us by the balls I don't see that changing. Love the guy but he should be paid what he is worth or more. Nothing less. I feel this way about all players. They should NEVER take a pay cut. He has earned whatever someone is willing to pay.

Again, if he’s not signed by Wednesday we won’t sign him. We would have an 18 million cap hit not matter what. That’s 18 million without his contract. Why not just give the man 25 a year over the next two years.

Again, he will play whatever market value dictates. If he signs before the hit we are getting screwed. If he signs after we are screwed. No win situation. I personally would let him go. Just prolonging something that is going to happen in 24 months regardless. It's time to move on. It will be painful but it's going to happen so get it over with.

I'm sorry, but that thinking is just plain stupid. We are currently set up to win it all again right now. It may be another twenty years until we are in this position again. Why throw it all away? Where is the logic in that?

That's why it is not going to happen.
