You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Do you take the millions of dollars in guaranteed money by signing the highest contract you can get but only a 1/25 chance of reaching the Superbowl, or would you sign with a team that had a proven QB and a much better chance of winning the Superbowl(maybe 1/12)?
Ok consider if your chances were 1/4 to make the Superbowl. Post your comments on what your chances would be to sign a lower contract. What would your friends, family and agent tell you? |
Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Have to go with the potential glory. The money is not going to make or break me at this point in my career. I'm not playing for money at this point.

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
What I would do and what he will do are different. He'll take the money. You know he will.
|
Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Since no one can really predict how most teams will do, go for the money if it's out of Green Bay or Houston.

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Rams in the mix. They're right there, like us. He has options, more than we know.
I'm turning my attention to Johnathan Hankins who PFF graded an 85.5 last season. |

Ndamukong Suh Wants More Than a Billion
Choices in the poll suck. This article may give us an insight or two. |
Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
His wife said it all in the video. Get a job so I can stop lending you money. It's all about the money with Suh and nothing more and I hope he ends up with the team he thinks will be the best and they turn out to be the gutter dwellers of the future.

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
I’d take the money. Super Bowls mean nothing for the legacy of a defensive tackle. These organizations aren’t looking out for the players, so I don’t see why we should assume it’s in his best interest to take less money for a ring he could buy himself 1,000 times over.

Getting in the HOF opens up a whole another level of employment and financial opportunities and access to networks few have access... He needs that jacket and defensive linemen need that ring to get that jacket; otherwise, at the least, he's waiting several years and missing opportunities and bonus coin till he's in the HOF... |

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Rings are overrated. These guys have just a few years to make very BIG money. Suh is luckier than most as he's been around more than 2 or 3 years and has signed multiple contracts.
If it's me, I'm going for the money. That doesn't mean I'm not a team guy. I'm totally a team guy, and I'd even take a discount if I'm in the very fortunate position of a guy like Brees. Then again, 27 million ain't exactly pocket change... |

No they're not, they open a lot of doors - case in point, in my business I deal with marine, agriculture, energy (oil & gas) - wide array of folks... My friend Hal asked me to hire his kid to work in my warehouse one summer, give him a taste at real works as he wasn't putting in the time on books... At 14, this kid was already identified by pitching scouts across the country, I caught him in my warehouse on a slow afternoon - wicked movement, he was legit... But this kid knew it all, he was deaf to good advice; and he felt he was maxed out and wouldn't be a "real" pitcher; had him meet an ex-minor leaguer... As I still do business with the former pro, can't name drop, but he's got local connections and he's now a company man (if you work around oil & gas, that's a big deal)... This former pro never played a day in the majors, but he met a lot of big league talent on rehab reassignment... He'd hook big leaguer friends up with terrific fishing trips down here, then he started inviting big oil execs on these fishing excursions... Now he is a company man, earning over 500K a year and he's still doing this same schtick even today... Had him come by one Friday afternoon as I cook for my crew, and tThat day he told Hal's stubborn son this and I'll never forget it... "...if I could've played in the Bigs, maybe even rode the bench on a Series Winner, this would be peanuts - they all want to meet a winner..." Remember it like it was yesterday, and he was absolutely right... And no, the kid flunked out, GED, is expecting his third child at age 22 working as a deckhand on a barge... Yeah, getting guaranteed money is important, but don't kid yourself - Rings Matter... |
Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Suh wont be in the HOF anyway imo.
Don't see him leaving LA without a deal. The Rams looking really strong at the moment. |
Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
He's going to take the money...wouldn't you?

But it's not the point I was making. I'm saying a guy like Suh - everybody throws rocks because he's going for the money. I'm just being real. I'm saying that people throwing those rocks aren't in his shoes. Suh is clearly looking past football. Aaron Brooks is another savvy guy who held out, made lots of money, and has put it to great use for himself and his family. Put a ring in my left and and put an extra 5 million in the other hand. I promise you I'll give the ring back every time. As fans we look at these guys and expect them to have the same loyalty. Very few players ever end up in a position to lend itself to loyalty. They get cut. Business decisions. So I'm going for the money. Rings are nice, but for 99% of the players in the league 'nice' is all they are. That doesn't mean they aren't motivated to get one. Who doesn't want to win the big game? But, in my opinion, that misses the point. |

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Its hard to predict or what makes most sense for him.
I don't understand why sign with a team in hopes of playing for a winner and getting a ring: Its a gamble. Players who have done this probably realize its still a gamble and so difficult getting to the SB that you might as well go for the money. I can't imagine a team of advisors sitting around telling him go here for a chance to win a ring. Those advisors has a chance to get a nice check by him signing for $$$ and lots of $$$. I also agree that unless you are a QB. Go for the money. |

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
Defensive lineman have just as much chance to make it into the Hall of Fame as a QB. I've listed only the DT's and a combo, without just DE's and the QB's for comparison.
Modern Era DT's in the HOF: Junious (Buck) Buchanan (DT) 1963-1975 Curley Culp 1968-1981 Richard Dent 1983-1997 Art Donovan (DT) 1950-1961 Joe Greene (DT) 1969-1981 Charles Haley 1986-1996; 1999 Dan Hampton (DT-DE) 1979-1990 Claude Humphrey 1968-1981 Henry Jordan (DT) 1957-1969 Cortez Kennedy (DT) 1990-2000 Bob Lilly (DT) 1961-1974 Leo Nomellini (DT) 1950-1963 Merlin Olsen (DT) 1962-1976 Alan Page (DT) 1967-1981 John Randle 1990-2003 Warren Sapp 1995-2007 Bruce Smith 1985-2003 Ernie Stautner (DT) 1950-1963 Michael Strahan 1993-2007 Arnie Weinmeister (DT) 1948-1953 Randy White (DT) 1975-1988 Reggie White (DT-DE) 1985-1998, 2000 Modern ERA QB's in the HOF Troy Aikman 1989-2000 George Blanda (Also PK) 1949-1958, 1960-1975 Terry Bradshaw 1970-1983 Len Dawson 1957-1975 John Elway 1983-1998 Brett Favre 1991-2010 Dan Fouts 1973-1987 Otto Graham 1946-1955 Bob Griese 1967-1980 Sonny Jurgensen 1957-1974 Jim Kelly 1986-1996 Bobby Layne 1948-1962 Dan Marino 1983-1999 Joe Montana 1979-1994 Warren Moon 1984-2000 Joe Namath 1965-1977 Ken Stabler 1970-1984 Bart Starr 1956-1971 Roger Staubach 1969-1979 Fran Tarkenton 1961-1978 Y.A. Tittle 1948-1964 Johnny Unitas 1956-1973 Norm Van Brocklin 1949-1960 Kurt Warner 1998-2009 Bob Waterfield 1945-1952 Steve Young 1985-1999 Only included modern era because I couldn't find a list of DT's prior to 1946 for either position. There is a list for QB's before 1946 but must are just listed as HB. With this list in mind I would take 8 million for 2 years and have a 1/5 chance of winning the Superbowl over 12 million and a 1/25 chance. If you had 4 million to spend wouldn't you spend it on a Superbowl Ring? Ask those players from Minnesota, Buffalo, Panthers, Falcons or Bengals. I bet they would do it. I knew an offensive guard who played for the Bengals and he lived in Nebraska after he retired. I talked to him one day when he was wearing his Superbowl ring. He said he was very proud to wear it but would much rather have the other one. He said it kinda jokingly but you could tell he really meant it. Suh will always be remembered for stepping on people and his unprofessional treatment of players on the field unless he can propel himself to overcome that stigma and really become part of a team. |

Are those Vegas odds? I'd say Houston and Green Bay are about the same distance from a championship.

Re: You are Ndamukong Suh... what makes the most sense to do?
The ring and HOF induction way more valuable than a fat paycheck. He likely goes with the easy win, he was talking about finances recently. Trying to land on a SB contender and winning it, low probability but I say why not? He has already earned his coin. Good time to take the risk.

I think the Saints should sign Jonathan Hankins. He's every bit as good, younger, would be cheaper.

The rams have already played their head games against us. Just like how SF took Nnamdi and ruined his career in 2013 when he chose them over us.
