Jaguars release WR Allen Hurns, TE Marcedes Lewis

The Jaguars released receiver Allen Hurns and tight end Marcedes Lewis on Tuesday, creating more than $10 million in cap space.

Before the move was announced, Lewis told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he got the news from his agent and feels "disrespected'' by the timing. The move comes nearly a week after free agency began.

"I wish they would have done it sooner," he said. "I think I deserved a little better than this."

The Jaguars saved $7 million in salary-cap space by releasing Hurns and $3.5 million more by releasing Lewis.

Nope, unless it's a bargain basement price - No. We've got to extend @CantGuardMike among other positions in just a couple of years...

Willie will bounce back and we'll be getting him at a good price coming off a forgettable year...

Only thing we need on offense is a capable Tight End and that's only going to happen in the draft this year, some Offensive Line Depth, and some Wide Receivers too develop...

True - Let the market set his value, re-sign him to that value or move on if it's cost-prohibitive...

This way he holds no resentment to the team because they are paying him what the market set for him...

And team officials now have something to fall back on if he indeed tanks, they at least didn't overpay for him as they have done in other cases...

Lewis can give us 2 years and be a placeholder, but considering we were one play away from the NFCCG with virtually no TE's, I'm not sure this is a priority.

Hurns, yeah, that would be nice, but I don't think we have the dough.

Look around the market. "Cheap" WR's are going around 8M per season.

FWIW, Hurns spoke on a Charlotte radio station yesterday and stated he could possibly take less money to play with the right QB. Get this man on a plane to meet Mr. Brees please.

I think Hurns could be a James Jones type player on our team. It's not a bad fit. But looking at what Donte Moncrief got from the Jaguars(WTF were they thinking?), you got to wonder how much Hurns will actually cost.

Lewis is at the end of his career so I would pass. Hurns sounds good but not at 7 million a year.

I didn't think the Cows had any shot on getting Hurns after visit #1. Too bad Jets (he had to cancel due to bad weather).

This signing could spell the end of Dez or maybe they don't have any plans of drafting a WR with their first pick.
