Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

Really, really believe we're making a serious mistake letting him get away - let him go find out what's out there, report back...

And after the way Payton and Front Office mishandled the management of his injury, they need to make this right - I am Christian, but I believe in Karma...

Del Breaux could start the season as our No. 4 cornerback right now, continuing to get healthy and stronger - it would give us loads of options to be that deep...

The talent is there, we just haven't been deep enough at cornerback to let Breaux completely convalesce as he's always soldiered-up and played injured...

Let the market set his value and sign him to that with one of those two-year (essentially one year) deals where we have his rights if he breaks out to extend him...

You can never have enough play makers at corner. Ever.

I hope the Saints FO bring him back + Breaux has made it crystal clear he wants to be in NO. Vet min.

Win - win.

Offer a vet minimum. If he really wants to be here he will eventually sign.

We’re just waiting to hear who Suh signs with. If he doesn’t choose us and all that money isn’t set aside for him anymore I guarantee Breaux will be back along with Zach Line and Brandon Coleman.

He was certainly mistreated by the organisation, you'd think we'd at least give him a chance to get healthy and offer him vet minimum for this year.

Diz, the Saints have already offered him almost four times the vet minimum ($555K) with the original round RFA Tender ($1.907M). Now he's shopping to see if he can get more, and if he can the Saints can then match that deal.

That article posted above says;

Delvin Breaux is flying all over the country right now.

"Newly a free agent after New Orleans decided not to tender him and made the cornerback an unrestricted free agent, Breaux has already been to Denver and New England. On Saturday, he said that visits to San Francisco and Green Bay are next."

They didn't tender him though.

You're right. I was thinking of Snead. However, given Breaux wants to be in NOLA, it basically works the same way. Either he doesn't get an offer at all, or he gets an offer and presents that offer to New Orleans to see if they can match. It mostly likely be above vet minimum and below RFA tender value. Who knows, they may have already offered him vet minimum.

Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

My understanding of why Breaux wasn't tendered was so that it wouldn't hamper recruiting, signing for another CB (which turned out to be Patrick Robinson)...

But I'd still like him back for a chance to compete opposite Lattimore and at the least compete and push the unit quality as a whole...

Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

I'd like to have Breaux not only for a 4th CB but as a backup plan in case Crawley regresses. I love Crawley, and I think he will keep up the good play. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't seen players take giant leaps forward like Crawley has only to fall back to earth the following year. Having Breaux gives us a bit of insurance.

Another Great Point and Argument to keep Breaux...

I have that same nagging fear with Crawley. And like you I mostly think he'll continue to play well. But sometimes a guy catches lightning in a bottle for a year, and then it's gone forever. Though I will offer in his defense that he was usually in decent to good position on plays in his rookie year, just couldn't play the ball. So as long as he doesn't go back to playing scared I think he should be good and only getting better with experience. Still needs to work on not being so handsy, or at least getting smarter about it.

I didn't know this. If he wants to be home then all he has to do is sign.

Maybe because he has been battling injuries and not been healthy.

I don’t think he’s going to be back at his pro bowl level but I do believe he is better than PJ. You get Breaux at vet min he’s a steal.

Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

I don't think Crawley will regress, I just believe he's limited. 6" 190 at best. He can run ok. I think his quickness is average but his top speed is pretty good. Big, physical WRs will always give him trouble. The best part of Crawley's game is he has decent hands and ball skills. If you make a mistake, he'll pick you off. If our pass rush becomes elite, Crawley could be a real solid starter. Oh and despite his light weight, he is willing to come up and tackle aggressively, though he'll never be a big hitter. If we could draft Donte Jackson late, I think he could possibly beat out Crawley or definetely be an upgrade over Swann. So many Tigers this year could help us. And many might be late picks or free agents. Will Clapp-great OL who can play center or guard. Russel Gage-probably wont be drafted is a great athlete who could be a Golden Tate type WR. Darrel Williams-probably wont be drafted is a 235+lb back with outstanding hands. Christian Locotoure is a beast DL wholl go late and led all SEC D lineman in tackles.

He's already a solid starter with an average pass rush now. PFF had him as the highest graded cornerback through the first half...

As he was among the most targeted, regardless of how much weight you put into PFF, all things being relative, he was getting the job done

You do realize Damian Swann was released in September 2017? All Jackson has done so far is let his hubris psych himself out at the combine...

Slow down there, State - Donte Jackson is not an improvement over what we have now. Now Clapp might be a good replacement for Kelemete...

There are no other LSU Tigers from this year's crop we'd want on this roster as their best years were at State or they're problem children..

Big fan of Breaux. Love to see him back. FO should be glad to have such a willing talented selfless player. Screwed by medical team. Sign him to good big contract or I wouldn’t be upset if he sued.

Very happy for him still getting a chance to play! Nick Underhill says he couldn’t get cleared by other teams because of the spinal injury so that explains a little bit of why he wasn’t getting signed.

He was OK. But I never got all the hype about him for me he was at best average and didn't make many plays I remember. It was just a feel good story. I do think mistakes were made about bring him back too early which in hindsight wasn't right. I don't think we will be hearing too much about him anymore. Who knows many people have been hurt and just never made it to their potential. The NFL can be a hard road.

Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

I can see teams avoiding him because of the existing neck injury, but why would that affect the Saints who took the chance before?

Understand limiting liability after doing such a poor job managing his recovery, but this stinks. He deserved a prove-it chance from the Saints FO...

And at his average, he was easily better than the bottom half of our CB roster; at his best, he shut down some of the NFL's best receivers...

Yeah I don’t understand at all why we couldn’t bring him back. Probably just too much egg on Payton’s face.

At worst, Breaux would have been solid depth, yet Devante' Harris still has a job. I wish Delvin B a healthy season in Canada though.

Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

When we first signed him there where other teams that wanted him. He didn't have another spinal injury so I don't get why those same teams would not clear him. I think having him on the pine is better than Harris healthy.

Re: Delvin Breaux Taking Free Agent Visits, But He Admits He Wants To Be Home

Breaux went back to the CFL.

Delvin Breaux is heading back to the Canadian Football League.

The former Saints cornerback signed a deal to rejoin the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who he starred for before landing with the Saints in 2015. CFL reporter Justin Dunk first reported the news that was later confirmed by a source. Breaux hopes to return to the NFL, but multiple sources say he had trouble finding a contract because of medical concerns.

Breaux had a standout rookie year for New Orleans in 2015, intercepting three passes and showing upside as a coverage cornerback. But he suffered a string of injuries that limited him to appearing in six games over the next two seasons.
