Not saying anything myself, just thought fans would like the read:

BROOKS GETTING THE BOOT?



We've been aksing league insiders for all of the offseason whether the Saints will be marching out quarterback Aaron Brooks, whose release would result in a net cap gain for Nawlans, given his 2005 salary.



And with the team's selection of former FSU quarterback Adrian McPherson, our guess is that the Saints will give McPherson every chance to show that he can become the quarterback that Brooks never became.



Brooks has been inconsistent at best, mediocre at worst since emerging as "the guy" with the Saints during the 2000 season. After winning a camp battle with Jeff Blake in 2001, Brooks held out for a new deal in 2002 -- and in the three seasons since he hasn't exactly earned all of those dollars that had to be pried out of owner Tom Benson's fingers.



So if McPherson, Florida's first and only "Mr. Football" and "Mr. Basketball" and an emerging star who got run out of Tallahassee in the wake of gambling allegations, can show the Saints a little somethin'-somethin' before September 1, we wouldn't be surprised to see Brooks' name in the final transaction report before opening day, when his entire 2005 salary will otherwise become guaranteed.

I would like to see AMac at least get a shot at becoming this franchise\'s new quarterback. However, I think with our new line, the running game should be vastly improved, especially if Deuce stays healthy. As a result, I think this will take some pressure off of Brooks because he won\'t have to throw the ball 60 times a game. I would love to see AB have a great season, but who knows with this guy?

Maybe not this year, but A-Mac is the future QB of the New Orleans Saints...like it or not!!!!!

You never know about NFL QBs.

They always show so much promise coming out of college (Ryan Leaf)

Or sitting on the bench. (Eli Manning)

But once they get thrown into the fire things don\'t look nearly as promising.

Is McPhearson the next great QB? Sure he is!

Interesting, but pro football talk is usually about speculation. And if McPherson is the QB opening day, and Brooks is released, traded, whatever, don;t we go from Brooks and Bouman to McPherson and Bouman?

LOL, I seriously doubt that Brooks will be going anywhere in the next two years. It\'s like Venturi, he\'s Mr. Benson\'s best buddy.

Lacks ideal lower - body strength . Must improve technique ; relies too heavily on arm strength . Can get impatient in the pocket . Questions linger about his intelligence and ability to pick up schemes quickly . Character is a concern after a gambling scandal in college .

What we have here is Brooks jr.

Another sad attempt by the Hassteroid regime to provide no depth at the quarterback position to challenge Brooks .

Whodat said it all....lets see him in uniform first. I just really hope the staff allows a open competition in camp this year. It could be win win as competition usually brings out the best in both. Only one will win out though.

Yes AMAC will be the future but lets hope that it makes AB a better QB in the process. The last thing I wanna see is AB go somewhere else and shred our 4game winning new and improved D. Which I believe got better in the last 4 games but I still think need much improvement... I just hope that this makes BROOKS step his game up. :dance:

I think AB will probably play out his contract, then the new regime will decide if A-Mac is ready for prime time. We\'re talking about a raw prospect. He may be better than any of our lame reserves, though. If we have any luck, he\'ll be the next Cunningham. I don\'t know how people are planning AB\'s demise, and even calling A-Mac the AB Jr.

By the way, I\'m reading his combine tests were pretty average, but of course, the first question is of his intelligence. I doubt Favre\'s score was factor.

Your right his test at the combine were pretty average but doing those test and having game speed is alot different and the guy has some wheels.. Trust me that guy can fly... Now how smart he is raises another issue.. I agree with you

Also I think the brass will pay AB\'s contract for one more year. But after 2005, AB will have to renegotiate or leave as a cap casualty.

Won\'t happen. Too costly. 2005 is the first big money year and the contract is almost at break even. Next year the Saints will be upside down where it\'ll cost more to keep Brooks than to release him. If AB doesn\'t renegotiate, he\'ll be cut June 1, 2006.

Everyone on the team has a chance to break the starting line up, at least theoretically. AM will compete this year but more than likely will not see the field unless AB gets hurt, which i hope doesnt happen. or we are just blowing out teams and he is in for clean up in the 4th :D .

Next year may be different though. I\'d give it probably 50-50 on AB and AM. we shall see

stick with brooks one or two more years. i dont want a rookie in there. let the guy get used to the speed and different and more complex d\'s. two years would be nice
