Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

Ian Rapoport
@RapSheet
WR Brandon Coleman is signing back with the #Saints, source said. He was an RFA, non-tendered, but signs back in New Orleans.

Re: Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

[B]With the talent brought in, he's gone from our No. 3 to our No. 5...

WR (3) 13 - Michael Thomas, 19 - Ted Ginn, 16 - Brandon Coleman (RFA)

SR (2) 81 - Cameron Meredith (RFA 2018), 83 - Willie Snead (RFA 2018, Tendered), 80 - Austin Carr

Competition is good. The Saints still need to draft one though.

Re: Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

Hard to say. He improved minus some stupid fumbles but the blocking is on target. I think he will be in the mix at least as the 3-4. It's not like he regressed and if he cleans up the fumbling he looks no worse than 3 to me.

What I really see happening is whoever is the 3 is going to have quite a few games where they blow up with MT and Kamara with the best defenders and it really doesn't matter who it is. They will be open.

Re: Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

We need him for blocking as much as anything. I think we draft a WR or TE as early as possible unless we have to reach. Whichever can make an impact immediately, I don’t care which. I’m not completely sold on us having shored up a third down threat.
Either that or trade all our picks for the earliest first rounder we can get and draft a long snapper.

Re: Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

We got some big men at WR. We have to have one of the tallest bunch in the NFL if not the tallest. If they can stay on the field going to be fun to watch small DB's getting pushed on the ground or just run over.

Re: Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

Hope they resigned him awfully cheap. This is a position that needed an upgrade; should't be to hard to add/draft someone to beat him out. If not then CJ's group hasn't improved.

Why? We have receivers on the field. We have receivers on the bench. We have receivers on the practice squad.

So we're really going to spend a draft pick for a guy that'll likely be the #7 receiver?

BTW I feel exactly the same way for calls at OLine, RB and QB too. There just seems to be a lot of discussion about drafting players that are going to sitting on the bench or on the practice squad.

For the Saints, the future is now. The ideal draft pick is the BPA in an area of need. If we're talking pass rusher, or a dynamic tight end, then I can see.

Look at the roster: Thomas, Ginn, Meridith, Coleman, Snead, Carr, Dural
EDIT: I forgot Tommylee Lewis...

Who's going to be available in the 3rd round that can realistically crack the top 5/6? Why exactly would a 3rd round draft pick be more important than a pass rusher?

I really don't understand.

Coleman getting hurt, we did kinda see some offensive stalls because of it. . Good blocker and GL target. Hard to find a WR 6''6" halfway decent, not many of those.

I never thought I would miss seeing a bunch of receiver names from the draft that we could get to be better than what we have, but God rest his sole. If Hagan were still with us, he would have no less than 3 names to tell you lol.

I can’t see a wr being drafted early. We have 7 counting Dural on the PS that have the talent to make the team. Sounds more and more like a qb, TE, O-line or D-line with the rd 1 pick

One question. Do we have another field stretcher besides Ted Ginn? If not then we need one. We need a burner to open up the underneath routes.

Hopefully, he has improved his game. Also the Saints seem to be good at finding WRs in undrafted free agents.

Too many (at WR/TE) for my liking.

I dont see C-MER having a big role not until hes back 100% and learns the system... kinda like Graham was his rookie year... he could come on strong at the end of the year.... Coleman is a heck of a blocker ... Snead has fell off the planet idk whats with that dude... look for them to draft a WR and a TE thats what im expecting anyway...

Snead vs Coleman in camp
Can't see us paying $2 million for a #5 receiver

Re: Saints Re-sign WR Brandon Coleman

There are at least 3 WRs that are worth our 3rd Rd pick. But they'll need to fall.

Chark, LSU - we won't draft him b/c he's from LSU
Equanimeous St. Brown, ND - it'd be fun just to hear Hebert say his name.
Auden Tate, FSU - a tank of a man

St. Brown & Tate are better versions of Coleman IMHO. I just threw Chark in there to twist the knife for you LSU homers. Chark is 6'2" but ran the 40 in like 1.7 seconds.

Maybe we did this because we knew Snead was headed to Baltimore?

DJ's 40 times (4.35) at the combine & strong Senior bowl will catapult him to 1st/early 2nd round discussion. Etling often under threw him simply because the kid is so damn fast.

Barry ... agreed, if he falls to the 3rd, I like the value.

No doubt. We're gonna see Austin Carr step up in TC, I believe. And with the Cameron signing, WR isn't a top priority this draft. Going BPA, if 1 of those WRs are there in the 3rd we should seriously consider pulling the trigger.
