So much talent and depth... some names are going to make this team.

Hmmmm....
shouldn't we get to camp first before we start cutting all of our depth?
It is a 90 man roster after all

Maybe it shows us just how far Mauti has fallen on the depth chart.

kind of guy you root for. I have UC and the fact that this dude played while having flares is frigan amazing.

I wish he could be on the team forever man. This guy is such a warrior. Maybe we pick him back up later. I understand the move, but damn!

This makes me sad. He left it all on the field every time he played. Guy is all heart.

When you have the potential for a championship quality roster you do not have room for feel good stories, unfortunately.

I get it, but he played >75% of the ST snaps last year.

Ask Bill Belichic if feel good stories influence his decisions. My guess is he could care less.......I don't think he has any feelings.

When you get cut in May, the probability of coming back is slim.

thank god no one has mentioned the obligatory "cut him now so he can catch on with someone else"

Without the incoming rookie class he was 7th or 8th on the depth chart. Can't see him making the first cut anyway. We need these spots for positions being contested.

At the end of the day it should always be about production and availability. Which is why it made/ makes so many ponder why Mark Brunell was kept for so long or Chase was added last year. Then you look at Rankins and you recognize he is still so young so he might turn it aorund, but he certainly isn't being kept for production. Finally, you look at the availability of someone like the Sudafed Head and it boggles the mind

Turn it around? I must be missing something here.

Of the six defensive players selected ahead of Rankins, only Bosa and Ramsey were more productive in 2017. Not to mention 2017 was Sheldon's first full season of NFL football.

yeah and his production was down this year from last..not a good sign. Stinks of Ellis 2.0, but I hope the dude goes bananas this year and is probowler

Re: Saints Release Linebacker, Local Fan Favorite Michael Mauti

Again was critical of the signing as I thought the Saints were signing him to sell tickets because of his name and being a local fan favorite...

Then he had an incredible impact, not only on special teams, but graded damn-near elite when subbing at the strong-side linebacker spot...

But I taking the tea leaves reading this way - Jumper and/or Freeman must've really impressed, or confirmed their scouting at rookie mini-camp...

The other more ominous thing could be a return of his health issues and an inability to keep the weight - wish him all the best...

Why do you feel it is your duty to share lies like that? People come to this forum to learn things and that is just plain false. I know you think you're being funny and/or clever, but all you are doing is falsely smearing the reputation of one of the most outstanding characters on the roster. Two fellow Saints players (Bushrod and Strief) have both implied publicly in interviews that Ingram was the victim of taking a normally safe supplement that had been contaminated by trace elements of a banned substance. It had nothing to do with Sudafed according to ANY source beyond a member here on Black & Gold that mentioned Sudafed being one of the several items on the "banned list" that could receive a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) from the league.

Either you are too lazy to read enough to know you are in error or you think that your weak attempts at humor justify spreading lies.

That's a really long post. No, you brought up Sudafed. Until you I had never heard the Sudafed excuse. But since then I've run with it

Nope. Actually I did in the Ingram suspension post. I made reference that former Saints Deuce & Shanle spoke on WWL how flawed the "system" was & how even using cold medicines such as Sudafed (contains pseudoephedrine - banned under the PED policy) can get you suspended by the league.

That explains it then. You must be too lazy to read with any comprehension. I knew I wasn't the one that brought up Sudafed in the discussion.

Please think before you spread negativity about our players. I think it was Bushrod that said in his interview that there are four or five players every year that get hit with a suspension based on taking the same supplement that many other players take and which is supposedly approved by the league. It is just bad luck that the batch that they used was cross contaminated with trace elements of an NFL banned substance. The vast majority of that supplement goes out to the general public so it isn't known the contamination even exists unless someone such as an athlete gets tested for the substance.

If this indeed was what happened it was just plain crappy luck. This would also explain why Ingram would have fought the test results "vigorously" and should most likely appeal the suspension length through a third party arbiter.

That makes four separate persons now that have brought up the same basic scenario in relation to the Ingram suspension. It is looking more and more that this is what happened. If so, Ingram just had plain bad luck and became part of the statistic of four or five players per year that unknowingly ingest a banned substance. It is indeed a "flawed" and "broken" system that "doesn't work" as described by those four current and ex-players. Sucks.

This site, New Orleans Saints Fan Forums, News and Blogs - Black and Gold, is a fantastic site for gaining information about the team the vast majority of us love. It is a site available to share information. I have never seen you contribute anything more than animosity followed by a brief minor love fest (never more than a couple of posts) when called out. You constantly attack any opening to put down our players. You, sir (and I am putting that only to be polite), are an embarrassment to those that truly love our Saints.

Once again, what is your issue?
