Although, now that I think about it, if the story is right then the fact that Simon has agreed on a long-term contract and is no longer a franchised free agent would 1) free up even more cap space for the Saints, and 2) significantly up his value ... especially if the Eagles still have to negotiate with Howard. Man, I don\'t know about this. I can\'t find diddley poo on this anywhere. I\'ve looked at ESPN,NFL.com, KFFL and The eagles own site. I think I\'ll wait. :)

I don\'t know what to read into Haz stating that Howard \"has a 99% chance\" of staying, but I can read a lot into the Eagles getting rid of practically every vet who faxes what they think is their market value to the FO.
I\'m still hoping something goes down, I guess. |

I hate rumors like this. Nothing against the post, or the poster, but...
We -already- knew Simon was a likely trade to the Saints, based on his current situation in Philly and the Saints near desperate need for a DT. But now, after reading this post and scrambling for 20 minutes trying to out if it had any validity, I know exactly as much as I did before. Nothing. I hate that. |

Corey Simon is not under contract.
http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl Eagles | Simon May Boycott Minicamp - from www.KFFL.com Wed, 27 Apr 2005 17:03:44 -0700 Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Philadelphia Eagles DT Corey Simon will presumably miss the team\'s upcoming minicamp because he is not under contract at this time. He has not yet signed his franchise tender with the team and his agent, Roosevelt Barnes, has noted Simon will not attend minicamp or training camp. While the Eagles tried to trade him, they have indicated they do not plan to release him. Barnes noted he feels Simon could receive the kind of long-term deal he is looking for if he was cut by the team. |

This is WAY WAY too good to be true. I hope it is. Has anyone found anything to even come close to confirm this?

I shouldn\'t even ask, but.....If we did get Simon, how do you guys think it would effect our defense? Obviously an upgrade.....but...whats your opinions?

I think Simon and our new LB will be an upgrade for the run D. Teams generally only have to run up the middle, but it seems we\'re building our D from the secondary inward.
That\'s bad news, when the S is consistently leading the team in tackles. |

Signing Simon means dumping Howard. So, the starting front 4 would be Grant, Simon, Young, and Smith. All are good against the run. All have motors and skill. Young\'s play should be improved with a big boy next to him who can actually play.
If Fincher is at all the real deal, then our defense might not be changed, it might be transformed. If memory serves, one of Fincher\'s biggest strengths is his ability to play in the middle without studs to hold up lineman - something Watson isn\'t as good at. If that\'s the case, and Fincher can have a rookie year like Watson, and Watson, Allen, and Buckwoldt can all keep improving like last year... Watson, Fincher, Allen behind Simon and Young (normally), Simon and Green (big), or Whitehead and Young/Simon (passing) should be a significant upgrade. |

Or, maybe Loomis can work his magic and figure out a way to keep Howard under a new deal and sign Simon. Then, we could have Grant, Simon, Howard, and Smith on the field at one time!!! I gotta go change my pants. :) LMAO.
PS - this was a JOKE!!! |
