If he nabs 40-50 catches this year our offense gonna be humming

It won’t be this season. He’s going to need a year on the practice squad. Sounds like he has the mental makeup to handle what’s going to be thrown at him.

Sounds a bit high for me
Going to be hard just making the squad. I could see a normal NFL red shirt first year on IR upcoming.

That's true, but if he does it will be glorious

Idk. Maybe this guy cracks the 53 and starts producing. Wouldn't be the first time fellas.

This is true. Nobody was talking about some Colston guy making the squad some dozen years ago.

He can probably make the roster. He needs work blocking but catching and route running he seems to have those skills. Would not be the first time a TE made this roster that was a poor blocker.

So he's better than Boo Williams?

We'll likely keep 3 TE's, maybe 4.

Benjamin Watson
Michael Hoomanawanui
Josh Hill

Deon Yelder
Nate Wozniak
Garrett Griffin

He's got a shot.

Thought Wozniak is now rostered as a lineman?

Yelder reminds me of Ben Watson.

Precisely.

For me, Pierre Thomas comes to mind. I gave him no shot at making the team, much less becoming a very good player in New Orleans.

He is.

Yelder might grab the last spot of the 53 and see a couple of healthy scratch days.
For me personally, it would not break my heart to see Hill go. 5 years with Brees as your QB and your career high is 16 catches.

Saw an article about each team’s biggest battle. They had P.J. Williams and Crowley. I would say Okafor and Davenport. As far as tight end I see Watson and Hill after that we’ll have to wait for pre-season to find out.

I think Davenport takes it easily. I think Okafor peaked last season and Davenport will come out of the gates with at least that same level of effectiveness.

It's time for PJ to make a leap. Not sure if you caught it but Sean Payton did say he sees Jamerson as an outside corner so there's that.

Practice squad player and will maybe come in if someone gets hurt.

If he is really a good find, Payton certainly won't show much in the pre-season.

Here's the thing, informed fans, studio analysts, beat writers all project they'll keep three (3) tight ends, as many teams do - it is a norm...

But if four guys play well in camp, show value to the team, then the Saints will keep four (4) and then could come back and drop one for slacking, injury, or other...

It's not a team or league limit of three (3) tight ends - it's just a norm...

Should Taysom Hill win the backup job outright, then the Saints may only keep two (2) quarterbacks - so that's an extra tight end, edge rusher, or defensive back...

We'll see who they keep at TE. Yelder likely makes the team unless he screws up. The Savage QB is a goner with JT on board now. So we keep TH and JT at QB.

I like Hill. He's a crazy good blocker and he can catch. Maybe not the best route runner, but the guy is all heart and team. He makes the running game better.

Does this guy even have accurate throwing mechanics? I don't think he's the next best thing ... even as a back up.

Re: Saints might have landed 'an absolute steal' in undrafted tight end Deon Yelder

If Yelder shows out at training camp then I think he makes it onto the final 53. At least I hope so because we need some fresh talented bodies playing tight end......right now we are average at best.

Oh yes, thank god Fleener is gone......but I hope he's alright!

Watched some of his tape.

Yelder reminds me of a young Antonio Gates. Similar size, speed, quickness and HANDS

Hoomanawanui is really our only legit blocking tight end...

I would expect Taysom is extremely important as a special team player. As a QB ...not so much.
