Re: New Orleans Saints OTAs 29-31 May 2018
Notes and observations from Thursday's organized team activity. Injury updates: Wide receiver Cam Meredith continues to do some work before team drills during practice. It looks like he is moving well. A.J. Klein was on the field but did not appear to do much. Not spotted: Mark Ingram, Kurt Coleman, Tre’quan Smith and Brandon Coleman Present not participating: Cam Jordan and Trey Hendrickson Heavyweights: The highlight of Thursday’s practice was the moments when Marshon Lattimore and Michael Thomas squared off...both men are clearly approaching it as a friendly competition every single time they’re pair up against one another. P-Robbin’ season: Patrick Robinson, who was brought back this offseason to solidify the nickel cornerback spot, made some plays during the session. He held his own in one-on-ones, breaking up a pass to Thomas and surrendering another one...If he plays like he did last season, he will provide a significant upgrade to the secondary. Moving around: Cam Jordan, Trey Hendrickson and Alex Okafor didn’t participate in team drills...which allowed rookie Marcus Davenport and Al-Quadin Muhammad...to log some first-team reps...practices aren’t conducted with pads on, so it’s premature to make any proclamations, but it is good experience... Explosive: It was one small moment, in a practice where there isn’t real hitting, but Demario Davis looked explosive when blitzing. If he comes as advertised, he could finally settle the shuffling around that has occurred at linebacker the last few years. Good moves: UDFA wide receiver Eldridge Massington had one of the better reps during one-on-one drills when he used a stutter step at the top of his route to create separation against safety Marcus Williams. It’s too early, but this is the second time Massington has stood out during the two practices open to the media... Random observations: Taysom Hill held on field goals. This might not mean anything, but that is a role the backup quarterback has to fulfill. … Hau’oli Kikaha got some work at linebacker. … Interesting to see the players serving as upbacks on kickoffs. Previously, those were bigger bodied players. During today’s practice, tight ends and fullbacks filled the spot. The new role is changing the profile of that position. … Nate Stupar intercepted a J.T. Barrett pass thrown over the middle. … Rookie Natrell Jamerson broke up a pass during team drills. |
