What games was he watching last year... so what Deuce got 1000 yards, we had a horrible line last year and we need to shore that up! No protection for Brooks, Deuce should be nearing 2000 yards. With a back like him we should/need to use him to every bit of his ability and that means BLOCKING to its finest. I like the Brown pick and felt we should have gone after a OL in round one from the begining. Defensively, if they actually step up and coaching comes around. we will be fine with some more additions but where we were sitting I think the Saints did the right thing in round one.

Bullocks is a ball-hawk, who is better versus the pass than he is the run. Bullocks plays the pass great, plays the run about average. He was the 2nd rated safety in the draft. But I guess you gotta spin it to cause controversy. I don\'t know why they have to do that, most of the article was good. Quote:
Many scouts and team officiasl think he can be something special. But I guess he\'s gotta make it look like the whole league thought this guy was crap, except the stupid ole Saints. Its a shame. Eighty percent of the article was dead-on. But this type of slanting really irritates me. Like this... Quote:
Project QB? Aren\'t all QB\'s drafted after the 2nd round pretty much projects? This kid is a bit more than some 5th round QB project though. Good article, other than the unnecessary slants. [Edited on 29/4/2005 by Danno] |

I don\'t like when folks try to convince me that we suck and we\'re always going to suck as long as Haslett and co. are here.
But, I can understand why folks feel that way! Haslett and Loomis go into every offseason talking about how our defense is going to improve. They talk about how the current players just need to \"gel\". They talk about how current players just needed more time in the system. They\'ve told us how much they believed in Orlando Ruff. They\'ve told us how much Tebucky Jones was going to help the secondary. But, the bottom line is that our defense has actually gotten worse each year! And here we go again! The current players just need to step up. The last 4-games proved our defense isn\'t that far away. You know how much of that I really believe? Not much!! However, I\'m not going to sit here and say we\'re gonna have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Even though we could. Because the defense did show some REAL improvement over the last 4-games. But I have to see more before I\'m convinced. And for the 1st time EVER, I think we have a solid secondary. But ... we\'ve still got the same ol\' questions on defense !!! Are ANY of our linebackers able to do their job effectively? Can our defensive tackles do their job? For me, it all comes down to our Defensive Tackles and our Linebackers. 1. Courtney Watson 2. James Allen 3. Colby Bockwoldt 4. Jonathan Sullivan 5. Brian Young That\'s \"half\" of the defense that are HUGE question marks. It\'s not exactly a ringing endorsement that our defense is going to be what we need them to be. We\'ve got 5-positions on defense that are HUGE risks. The only way I see our defense making a huge leap is if Albert Fincher and Jonathan Sullivan step up. And that\'s asking a lot. But, we\'ll see. |

I\'ve actually read that he\'s not that bad versus the run either..it\'s just that he\'s better versus the pass. |

1. Courtney Watson Not much of a Question mark. Looks at worst pretty decent, at best a solid player. 2. James Allen. Question mark yes, HUGE question mark? OK I guess. I\'ll give you that one. 3. Colby Bockwoldt. We officially have 9 WLB\'s on the roster, and 2 MLB\'s that can swing over. Colby may be a questionmark, but that position isn\'t. I wouldn\'t call it a HUGE question mark though. Maybe just a concern. 4. Jonathan Sullivan HUGE question mark. And I mean HUGE!!!!! But we have 4 guys who may replace him anyway. Bryant, Leisle, Green, or even Jefferson. But its probably the biggest questionmark on this team. 5. Brian Young. Why is he even on this list? He\'s probably the farthest thing from a questionmark I can think of. |

I like it too. 1000 yds aint nothing no more. 1500 to 2000 is the new mark for the top RB\'s. Improving the O should help the D. Maybe we can run the ball more , control the clock more. This would let the D rest a little more insted of having to stay on the field the whole 1st half. Our O-line really sucked last year, and i think it was a problem that needed fixing.

If a player is good versus the run, but excellent versus the pass, you can bet your last dollar some Saints reporter will write, \"the Saints draft a guy who can\'t tackle\" I\'m so sick of that carp. |

Danno --
Don\'t take my post as being negaitve. It\'s not. And I\'m not trying to bash any of our current players. But I have to be honest in my opinion. Whether it be right or wrong. The way I see it .... We had the 32nd (dead last) defense in the NFL. We sucked at stopping the run. Has Brian Young proven he can get the job done at DT? Not in my mind. Reagardless of the accolades he has receieved, I haven\'t seen anything that really convinces me he can get the job done. And the samething goes for Courtney Watson, Colby Bockwoldt, James Allen, and Jonathan Sullivan. I watched one of the all time worst defensive performances last year by this Saints\' team. And NONE of the players we\'re discussing proved to me that they can get the job done. Not Watson. Not Brian Young. Not Sullivan. Not Bockwoldt. Not James Allen. All I can say is I hope they improve and become the players we need them to be. Maybe some of them are more of a risk than others. But, in my mind, they are all huge risks until they prove themselves. [Edited on 29/4/2005 by GumboBC] |

But three of those wins came vs. non-playoff teams, and in the one game vs. a playoff squad, the Falcons rested QB Michael Vick and TE Alge Crumpler after clinching the division title a week earlier.
Uhhh, those three teams were in playoff contention at the time the Saints beat them. This article is typical of sports journalism: full of opinion and made up facts. |

What I don\'t understand is, why should we think Fincher will be anything more than a special teamer? Scouts and team officials have been high on many players in the first round who have busted, wouldn\'t that probability be that much greater for a third rounder? Fincher did not play elite competition week in and week out. But he was quite easily the best player on UConn\'s D, seems like he would put up good numbers. Fincher could be like Watson last year and obviously need to get bigger. If he gets swallowed in his first year of competition, that would mean his contribution would be more likely felt on special teams no? How is that a bad thing? Are we expecting this guy to come in next year and be running the defense? I am not. I do believe in 2-3 years he COULD be something, but he could be like our other 3rd rounds LBs Allen, Hodge, or non-playing Grant. I guess I don\'t understand why people get so upset if someone says Fincher may not be all that. Is it really such a huge deal if he is a special teams guy next year? He is a 3rd rounder after all.

Quick comment on the last 4-games ...
The Panthers (Nick Goings) put up 122 yds rushing against us in week 12. In week 16, Nick Goings and the Panthers only rushed for 46 TOTAL yards. In week 4, the Arizona Cardinals (one of the worst rushing teams in the NFL) rushed for 211 yards on our defense. Why do I bring up the Cardinals? Because we couldn\'t stop anybody, regarless of the level of competion. So, the \"improvement\" was real over the last 4-games, IMHO. The question is ... Can it continue? I\'m not really worried that Fincher played at a small school. Demarcus Ware played at Troy State and Parcells drafted him with the 11th pick. You think Troy State played \"elite\" competetion? But, you\'re right, saintwhodi. Expecting Fincher to come in and be the \"man\" at MLB is a leap of faith. |

I know this is gonna sound off the wall, but on the forum I moderate, there is a Falcons fan who actually goes by the screen name FalconFan7 who swears he knows Fincher and has been raving about him for months. I have honestly been hearing Fincher\'s name since before the draft, and he actually came onto the forum and chatted with us once. Said Parcells showed him a lot of interest. Let me dig it up. Here is where I asked him about how Finch felt about coming to play for us. 43543.18 And here is where he came to the forum http://forums.about.com/ab-profootba...Reading+%3E%3E or 36423.1
Seems like a cool guy, and I hope he has success, just not expecting it to be immediate. Okay I tried it and it didn\'t come out to the thread. Go to football.about.com. I don\'t know if you have to sign in to just read the threads. But do an advanced search for a post containing the exact words \"Alfred Fincher Come Here.\" It was from Feb. 10th. Fincher\'s name is UConn football. He answers some questions about talking to PArcells and such. That Falconfan guy told me he is excited about playing here, and says he wants to play wherever we need him. [Edited on 29/4/2005 by saintswhodi] |

Okay, this should be a better link.
http://forums.about.com/ab-profootba...es?msg=36423.1 And here is the one where I asked about Finch to FalconFan7. http://forums.about.com/ab-profootba...s?msg=43543.18 |

Pardon me, but I\'m expecting my 3rd round LB (who some projected in the 2nd as well as the 4th) to eventually become more than just some special teams guy. I\'ll cut him some slack, maybe he meant we should have picked a sure fire stud starting LB in the 3rd round. And the Saints feel he might be that. |
interesting article from PFW
I see. I didn\'t take it that way though. But I see what you are saying. I don\'t expect him to be on special teams for long even if he is. Maybe this year, but no longer. The kid has a good attitude. Seems smart. Ready to go, and I like that. I posted a convo with him from another forum, and if you guys have any questions for him I will ask that FalconFan guy and see if I can get an answer. But I see how you could have taken that statement that way Danno.

I still don\'t see the Fincher thread. All I see is somethig about Flava Flave? |
interesting article from PFW
WTF? I clicked on the link and it took me right to the thread titled \"Alfred Fincher come here\" from Feb. 10. HE answers a couple of questions then rolls out saying he would be back the following Saturday to post. don\'t think he came back though. Talks about how meeting Cadillac Williams at the Senior Bowl was real exciting. I don\'t know dude. I can only suggest you go to the forum, football.about.com, sign in if you have to, do an advanced search once you get into the forum, click on the drop down box for exact phrase once in that search, type in the words \"Alfred Fincher come here\" go down to the bottom and put the set the search to the general folder, then all the way before the search button on the bottom there is a drop down box where you can click oldest, put oldest inthe field, click search, and on the left hand side of your screen should be some threads and one will say Alfred Fincher come here from Feb. 10th. You sure you are clicking this link: http://forums.about.com/ab-profootba...es?msg=36423.1 cause I just did it again and it worked.

Gumbo, do you have AIM or MSN messenger? I can tell you how to get to it a lot faster. I don\'t see how the link isn\'t working though. I have tried it like 5 times now and it worked each time. Whatever messenger you have I will download it here at work and walk you through it. It\'s just Finch asking some questions and such.

I cannot predict whether Fincher has the talent to play LB in teh NFL however I have heard he has all of the intangibles (there\'s that word again) He is smart, has a great work ethic, and understands the position and seems to be able to read the direction of the play -- all good qualities to have in an LB.\\
As for the rest of the article I cannot say it was too far off. I would have preferred to get DJ but we did fill a need -- and Brown will have a positive affect on our team -- I love the pick of McPherson -- with his talent I can see him being a big help in teh red zone -- we can line him up in the backfield and run a pretty good option play with him -- I don\'t think he is as much of a project as people think -- his year in the arena league proved he can play -- |
