Peyton Manning says 'ultimate pro' Drew Brees deserves to set record for passing yards

Peyton Manning knows it's not a matter of "if" New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will break his NFL record for career passing yards.

"It's just a matter of when," Manning told NOLA.com on Friday during the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

"He deserves it. He's been a great player for a long time," said Manning, who first met Brees in 1998 when he was a rookie with the Indianapolis Colts and Brees was playing nearby at Purdue.

"Obviously, he's just been the ultimate pro, taking care of himself, being in great shape. Credit to him for playing as long as he has at such a high level," Manning continued. "He's just been a great model of consistency, what he and Sean [Payton] have been able to do together for [12] years now."

My only concern is who will take his place when he retires. I like Tasom. He seems to be the future right now. After this season is over we will be able to get a better feel for his future. Sean pulled him from Greenbay for a reason, and it wasn't to fill a special teams spot

Just imagine the numbers he would have put up if he played his entire career with Sean Payton!

Before he came to New Orleans he was just average and that was why the Chargers drafted Phillip Rivers.

A contemporary who beat him in the Super Bowl and will beat his records. No question about who is better quarterback. Tommy who?

I remember reading an article from Nola a few years back and Rodney Harrison (former team mate with Drew) was very outspoken on the state of their franchise at that time. He basically said the Chargers front office was "dumb" to let Brees, himself as well as Junior Seau (Hall of Famer) leave.

Not to take anything away from Phillip because he's been extremely good (13+ years later) in San Diego , however he has yet to deliver that coveted Lombardi trophy we have with Brees in NOLA :bng:.

Life blows by us quickly, enjoy what we have while we have it. :bng:
