Zach Strief is a finalist for Saints’ radio play-by-play job

Former Saints offensive lineman Zach Strief is among the finalists for the teams’ radio play-by-play job, Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune reports.

Pelicans play-by-play announcers Sean Kelly and Joel Meyers and former WWL-TV anchor Mike Hoss are the other candidates to replace Jim Henderson, who retired in February.

Zach as a play by play guy? I just don't see it. He's the least qualified candidate of all of the finalists. Being a color analyst on live broadcast is extremely difficult. The Jim Nance, Al Michael's, Vin Scully & Dick Enberg's of the world made it appear easy. Jim Henderson spoiled me with his pinpoint accuracy & delivery .

I think this job either goes to Hoss or Joel Myers (does exceptional work with the Pels play by play).

Mike Hoss would be a solid choice...

Joel Myers is awful; often misidentifies regular roster members in pre-season games...

JP, Joel is hardly awful. Was solid when briefly covering the Lakers, UCLA basketball & the Olympic Nationals basketball team.

He's far from awful.

Have you seen the SAINTS' preseason games? Myers was misidentifying many of our regularly roster-ed players...

When he dared venturing into commentary with Stinch, it was obvious Myers put no prior time in preparation even if it is a PreSeason game...

And PreSeason games actually are harder because of the expanded rosters; but the mistakes mentioned are touching on regular season game issues...

He just talks like he's trying to get the back-end of a beer down - No Thank You...

I don't know if Zach is as qualified as the others but he would have my vote.

Personally I don't think Joel Myers' voice is right for football. He has a sort of sing-song monotone cadence that kinda puts me to sleep after a while. But that's just me. I could deal with Mike Hoss or Sean Kelly although I've never actually heard Hoss do play-by-play. But please not Myers. He has an identity with doing the Pelicans games and that should stay there.
