Saints place Brandon Coleman on PUP

The Saints have placed receiver Brandon Coleman on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune reports.

Disturbing still. Much time to heal up. Must be serious and we are just hearing about it. Somebody should step up though.

A lot of players are starting on PUP in the league. I still don't like it, our receivers needs as much work as possible to get right for the season.

A player can be placed on preseason (Active) PUP for finishing the wind sprints too slowly in the camp opening conditioning tests. Pat Kirwan was talking about this very thing two days ago on NFL Radio's Moving The Chains. He said coaches from the Parcells coaching tree have all learned to always use the PUP list as training camp opens for any and every small thing. You can activate a player from the preseason (Active) PUP at anytime, but if a player steps foot on a training camp practice field he cannot be placed on the preseason (Active) PUP if something small arises. He can only be placed on the preseason (Inactive) PUP list and cannot be activated until the beginning of the regular season, placed on the regular season PUP (six weeks mandatory) OR placed upon the IR list.

I hope Brandon is OK.

Hopefully being on PUP will teach him to hold the ball with two hands to stop him fumbling.

Fumbling is never good, however BC has only fumbled twice (both in the same game) in his NFL career. If/when he returns, I don't see him as a guy you worry about fumbling the football.

He fumbled in the wild card game versus the Panthers and twice vs Jets, luckily Ingram was paying attention and fought for it.

My worry is about Coleman "catching" the ball.
Still hasn't learned to catch the ball with his hands.
That continues to be a problem for him/us in traffic.

Re: Saints place Brandon Coleman on PUP

Anyone who really focused in on BC last year saw that a lot of his "catches" were for 1st downs. He's not a monster by any means but knows this complicated offense, is an above average blocker & Payton trust him. A key cog to this high powered offense.

For you stat guys ... BC had the same amount of TD's (3) as Julio Jones did in 2017. Not sure what we are expecting from a #5 WR on our roster.

If someone beats him out at camp ... so be it.

Antonio Brown and Jarvis Landry both had 4 fumbles last year
Nick Foles and Tom Savage each had 8. Glad the Saints don't have those CLOWNS right?

Lol the comparison is not even remotely close though, Antonio Brown had 101 receptions and Jarvis had 112 receptions, Coleman had a grand total of 23 receptions and still had 3 fumbles.

I really didn't know this. I just remember both fumbles and every time since I have been worried about him coughing it up.

Coleman has come a long way. He needs to toughen up more to take that next step and if he ever does he's going to be hard to handle for db's and s's with his size. I've rooted for him since he's been here and so far so good but I'll admit he's made me think at times he was hanging on by a tread with some of his play.

I watched him closely at camp last year and he was the laziest player at camp.....except for maybe Fleener. I was surprised he made the team and with the new players we just brought in this year I'll be surprised if his blocking skills keep him on the team.

No way in hell Coach Payton allows Brandon to see the field if he was perceived as "lazy" last season. If someone outplays him for the #5 WR spot in 2018, so be it but #9 and Payton trust him on the field in actual games.

Really? What I remember about Coleman is that he was being touted as the 2017 training camp stud.

With training camp officially underway, the New Orleans Saints have a lot of prospects and one name keeps popping up. Brandon Coleman, a former undrafted wide receiver is easily the most talked-about player right now. Everyone attending training camp can’t stop talking about him and for good reason.
Quote:

2017 could be the year for Coleman, especially with the reports coming out of camp. Almost every single day so far, Coleman has been mentioned. One of his more impressive plays came on July 31, per The New Orleans Advocate:

WR Brandon Coleman has been a regular in this spot. He laid a nice stiff arm on Vonn Bell after catching a crossing route and took off up the sideline for a score. It was a two-hand touch period, so he was ruled down, but it looked like a touchdown from our vantage point.

Re: Saints place Brandon Coleman on PUP

Coleman hasn't shown any progression in his time here; if he's PUP, then he's not practicing (at least according to league rules) so his roster chances are slim...
