COSTA MESA, Calif. — A welcome face was in uniform when the Saints took the field at the Jack Hammett Sports Complex on Wednesday for joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Veteran defensive end Alex Okafor is already back in uniform.

Okafor only participated in a portion of practice with the Chargers and did not do any full-team work, but the fact that the veteran is already in uniform and getting in some work is a good sign.

A week ago, Okafor suffered a bone bruise in his knee and a sprained ankle in practice.

"He'll be back here fairly soon," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "Fortunately, his injury last week wasn't anything significant."

Great news. Hope he can stay healthy because he is an important piece to the defensive puzzle.

Im not comfortable with Davenport yet so its great to see him back. Now we have depth to sub Dav in and out and don't have to rely on him for production every down. I still have high expectations for him though. Its just going to be a process.

And considering an injury history that has limited him getting to the next level, I suspect he'll finally tough it out in hopes of a pay day contract...

We just need him this season to transition to Davenport, Hendrickson...

Good for him. Good for the Saints. Hendrickson is playing lights out. Davenport is finally healthy. In a real way, Okafor could be playing for a spot on the 53.

Okafor is the starter with Hendrickson getting plenty of reps while Davenport comes along and takes reps from both of them. We have depth if everyone stays healthy and productive. Sweet!:p
