The New Orleans Saints are coming off of an abysmal defensive performance to open the season.

New Orleans gave up 529 yards of total offense, 8.9 yards per play and 41 points — Tampa Bay got one touchdown on defense — in a shocking start for a defense that made big strides a year ago.

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen did not want to go over that game in detail again in his weekly availability with the media on Friday.

"All I’m gonna say about the last game was, look, we had a bad day at the office, we didn’t play as well as we’re capable of playing, we’ve looked at the tape, we’ve made the corrections that we need to make, and we’re excited about the opportunity to move on to Cleveland," Allen said. "We’re certainly focused on those guys and certainly excited about the opportunity to go out and play against them."

Allen is pleased with the way his defense has responded this week.

"I think they’re locked in to the game plan, I think we’ve had a good week of practice, and I think our guys are excited about getting another opportunity to play," Allen said. "We’re looking forward to it."

That DC seat is about to get real hot if the Saints defense doesn't come out the gates strong and finishes stronger...

It really takes a total team effort to be that bad.

Saw no adjustments made from first to second half like we saw last year...

Just didn't like Allen's body language or looks in this game - looked really lost...

You’re right. They changed nothing. I went back and made sure.

Moving on to Cleveland. Great idea. Wish him all the luck. I'll even help him pack.

Only reason he isn't unemployed is because of his BFF.

He was supposed to be at least a decent CB coach and they looked worse than anybody.

Nothing in the statement about coaching. Threw players under the bus

I say we just don't even show up. No way we can win so why take a chance for injuries.

DA has a great team of assistant coaches. My guess is Payton is stirring the pot and he just doesn't understand defenses........how to beat them, yes......but not how to run them.

That's where Allen has to show Payton the door and allow him to run the defense...

Same needs to be done with the draft with Payton...

We're getting into Don Shula territory where he got tenure and ran a franchise into the ground after early success...

Tom Johnson is available. We could use him at DT.

Dennis Allen needs to simplify things.

To allow that bomb/TD on 4th and 5 from the 50 yard line. Then to compound it, on the Brownies last drive a Tyrod led offense marched from their own 25 to our 36 yard line in 3 plays??? C'mon man.

This is shades of the Saints/Vikings NFC game just last year. I'm starting to wonder if this wasn't a fluke. I can point out players but this is on Dennis Allen. His prevent defense philosophy are poorly coached.

Sean Payton needs to start dog cussing him on the sidelines if this continues to happen or give someone else the DC headset.

Letting receivers get behind coverage in those situations can't happen.

You couldn't have missed the point more glaringly, but then again, when it's deliberate...
