Snap Counts: Alvin Kamara getting most of the work at RB with Mark Ingram out

New Orleans handed off the ball 10 more times against the Cleveland Browns than the Saints did in the opener, and the game was far from the kind of shootout that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought to the Superdome. But Alvin Kamara is still getting a heavier workload than a back typically gets in the Saints offense. One week after playing 52 snaps against the Buccaneers, Kamara took 51 against the Browns, even though the Saints only took two more plays on offense. Veteran bruiser Mike Gillislee was on the field for nine plays — he carried the ball eight times in those nine plays — and Jonathan Williams lined up for six, although he only got one carry. Until Mark Ingram comes back from suspension in week five against Washington, Kamara might have to carry a heavy load, even though the Saints are worried about taking too much tread off of his tires. "I worry about workload relative to the running back position," Saints coach Sean Payton said on Monday. With that, here's a look at a few other observations from Sunday's game.
Saints 2018 Snap Counts Table: INJ = injured; INA = inactive; X = not on 53-man roster.

Still felt Boston Scott should have been give a chance. He looked way better than Marcus Murphy and he got a shot. I didn't see anything he did wrong, even on ST. He did a good job.

Tyeler Davison 52 INJ 52 pre injury, that's a lot of snaps in the rotation.
On the flip side -- > Craig Robertson 23 this should be a lot higher. Not sure what else you want this guy to do here in NO. |

Gillislee just seems slow & indecisive. You have to believe this guy is gone once Ingram returns. If TLL isn't healthy, I hope they bring up Boston Scott. We need a spark in the run game. Jonathan & Gillislee hadn't impressed + Kamara is too valuable to pound exclusively for 4 quarters. |

I agree completely with the give Scott a shot crowd. He's quick, elusive and seems to have great vision and a feel for the game.

My disappointment is the Saints were unable to find a suitable short term replacement for Ingram. On the positive side of that, we are getting to see if Kamara can be considered a 3 down workhorse.

Edit: Back on topic. I immediately noticed his limp. He looked in pain later in the game. I believe that we can over use him and are doing just that. The very thing Payton said he would not do. Also, why keep pounding him between the tackles every time? I guess we never did find Payton needed chess piece like he had hoped would develop into something reliable at TC. Where is Robertson? DA should have this **** figured out by now and players should be comfortable in the system at this point. Geez...... |
