By the same token, P.J. Williams has been injured, was unavailable, unreliably able to play and was rightfully put on the shelf... Now that P.J. is healthy, stronger, recuperated - he's also shown he can get it done and he may be a spark to jump start the secondary... Remember, Williams was the Defensive MVP of the 2014 BCS National Championship game - so he can get it done on the big stage... |
Re: Saints Release Arthur Maulet
Let’s remember that PJ Williams was the starter last year but he was benched in the London game for breaking some team rule; not poor performance. Crawley snagged a pick that game and they decided to go with the hot hand. PJ Williams looked good against the Rams when Lattimore and Crawley were injured. I’m not ready to write him off quite yet.

Ok then what’s Lattimore’s excuse?

Re: Saints Release Arthur Maulet
I don't even pretend to be a defensive guru. But it seems to me that the Saints need to have a defensive scheme that keeps receivers in front of them. The single high safety look they've been playing just flat sucks as both Crawley and Williams seem to be caught up in double moves that leaves receivers wide open behind them with no ability for Williams or Bell to recover.
So why not just be boring and play a Cover 2? Put one of these speedy linebackers like Davis or Anzalone in the middle to drop back into coverage in the deep middle? While of course Cover 2 can be beaten in the deep corners and down the seams, it's designed to limit huge plays over the top. And the last that I checked, that's what's killing the Saints defense right now. SFIAH |
