I will bleed black and gold until I die but it is getting ridiculous to watch football. It's hard to get excited anymore because you are just waiting for a flag to come out. I am truly frustrated with the game.

Roughing the passer is atrocious.

Yep. Targeting rules in NCAA aren't causing much problem, yet the NFL can't get it right. Sad!

Agreed, and I was concerned because I read somewhere our crew today has been throwing the most roughing the passer flags so far, but seemed to be a non-issue today, thankfully.

And I saw a couple of non incidental helmet to helmet hits with no call. In the offseason they made it sound like they would call it on linemen who accidentally bumped heads while blocking.
The bark was definitely bigger than the bite.

Yeah but we can all see what's happening around the league. It may not have effected us this game but what about the next. Look at the offenses around the league. Throwing for 400 yards is becoming the norm and IMO that is a direct correlation to the leagues effort to not let QB's get touched. Its pretty crappy to be honest, and the days of aggressive defense is fading away.

I think it allows the NFL to script the outcome of the season using the refs. It enables them to put the teams that draw the highest TV ratings in the best position to win. Between the way they schedule some of these Thursday night games and the refs they can put just about any team they want in the playoffs.

My thoughts exactly Mike. As bad as our defense has looked starting out the season I can't help but note that in watching other games this season with a few exceptions, Jags, Bears, Ravens, that other teams defenses are giving up huge plays right and left. I swear their secondary's look like ours out there. It's troubling IMO. With the rules being handed down in the last ten years or so defense is all but being eliminated from the game. I love a good shoot out every once in a while but I would much rather see a competitive game. Call me old school but the Steel Curtain, Doomsday Defense, Orange Crush, Dome Patrol, Purple People Eaters, etc. Give me those games any day over what's being put out there now.

I still, and always will, love football. It is the only sport I watch. I may not like how pussified it has gotten, but I am still gonna watch.
