I know this sounds crazy...
I watched and rewatched the record breaking play several times last night. I was so happy for Brees and the team when it happened! However, even on first look it seemed, well, almost staged. I still feel the same when I watch the play in Minnesota from last year. It just doesn't seem like everyone is giving full effort.
I know this sounds crazy, and I don't want to take away from Drew's phenomenal record. I just can't shake it and I'm seeing more and more plays that seem "funny", like something just isn't right. Even in the Panthers game the other day. On the final drive, Christian McCaffrey made a "first down" that was a yard short, and there was no measurement or second look. Then the TV coverage quickly cut off. I've looked for that play again on youtube and can't find it. I want to be wrong about this. :bng: |
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
It did have the element of staged. First thing that was said was "busted" play I believe by the announcer. Plus the wife and kids on the sidelines at exactly the right moment...meh. It did smell funny. Plus Brees is right there in stats for glory. You know he's chunking it so play soft coverage? I don't think so.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
I hear ya. Although I don't think it was staged. I did think it looked too easy. Like where the **** was the defense? Busted coverage. Thing about it is, even with all the BS that goes around now in the NFL, theres no way that a competitor (or 11 of them) would allow a free play. It's one of the things that keeps the game realistic.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
Here's the question though:
WHY would the Redskins stage this? They have nothing to gain from it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
I don't think it even matters either way. He was getting the record regardless. What did he need at that point? It wasn't a lot. If it would have been his last drive of his career for the record then I would say totally staged.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
Eh, they were in a bad coverage. They only had one safety trying to cover two receivers. If you go back and watch, you can tell the safety knew he was ****ed. Wasn't staged. I just think Payton knew that Brees was close, so why not try this now and get that mismatch. He did it, it worked. Payton was probably saving that play for an opportune time.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
Maybe that is the beauty of it. It was planned so well it technically was staged on our end. Them, not so much.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
ARE YOU QUESTIONING THE "HONOR" OF THE NFL????

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
What would the Redskins gain from something like that's. Nothing Congrats to Drew and the New Orleans Saints.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
I think it was a defensive screw up in the coverage and Drew just spotted it and exploited it, like he's done countless times before. I think it's also possible that once the ball got heaved downfield some of the other Redskins players instantly sort of froze or had an "oh, we're ****ed" type of reaction, and gave up. The Redskins guy who threw himself out of bounds and whiffed on the tackle, just gave up. That probably made it look a little bit suspect, but he was out of bounds and that was all she wrote, he wasn't going to get back in and catch anybody. I suspect it made the play look a little fishy, but that's just a long shot dive that he was trying to make.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
Redskins and Monday Night Football never mix.
They've had a bad track record over the years. |
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
It was kind of ironic how easy those final yards went considering how hard it was to reach the yardage total overall.
|
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
Regardless, it's one play and had no impact on who won the game. It was a beatdown. What about all the sacks, fumble, the pick? Was that staged. Both their RB's going down. Staged. There is no evidence. Some are trying to "Kavanaugh" this team.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
The NFL has teams of analysts who can tell you them the best way to schedule games so the teams they want to win will be in the best position to win. They schedule byes and Thursday night games in a way that will better get them the result they want. A couple of road games cross country around a Thursday night game is hell on a team. Throw in some rule changes every year and a little help from the refs and you have scripted football it’s all about ratings. It’s not rigged but the teams the NFL wants to win are put in the best position to do so.

I always like the calls. Some of them are really sad while others are blatant and it's like whatever. Never happened. Even the announcers steer away from blatant non calls. We got a couple this game early that helped us but they were indeed silly. |

Jesus Christ, what the heck are you talking about?
Brees pump faked to Kamara in the flat, and Norman totally excited his responsibly in zone. That left a wide open area down the deep right sideline. Norman was benched right afterwards. |

Boils down that the Redskins DB's struggled to cover Drew. I can't see them taking a dive.

Re: I know this sounds crazy...
I asked a friend who has worked for the Saints a very long time if the NFL was rigged and this was several years ago. His simple answer was no. I've known him for a very long time and do not believe he would lie to me.
Having said that, I think it just surprised the hell out of all of us how easy we ran up and down the field on them. Maybe we can be that good this year. I'm so very proud to have Drew Brees as our QB and will cherish the incredible moment's for the rest of my life. |
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
You saw a lot of buste coverages like that during the game. The long bomb to Meredith was just the same. Their backfield looks in disarray.

OKAY, WHO CAN'T FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS?
"PSSST! WITH 2:46 LEFT IN THE FIRST HALF LET BREES BREAK THE RECORD, DON'T TELL ANYONE, IT'S A SECRET!!" TALK ABOUT NO HONOR!!! |
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
Someone dropped off from Smith to cover Kamara. That was the bust.
Then... Drew threw the ball perfectly And then... Smith caught in stride and he ran really, really fast. |
Re: I know this sounds crazy...
When we put Alvin Kamara in motion it froze the corner, which left that side of the field empty. Drew said the completion was almost too easy.

But Norman totally abdicated his responsibility on that gamble. Kamara was someone else's problem on that play. But he got burnt to a crisp playing cowboy with the coverage. Carr noted the brilliance of Brees on the play was the fact that Tre'Quan Smith is never supposed to be open on the play. He's literally the 4th read. But Brees processed Norman's tendency, baited him, and made the throw to the guy that was never supposed to get ball. ga2500ev |

No doubt there are some strange occurrences out there. I still can't believe Williams wiffing on that tackle last year and taking out the only other player who could have chased down the receiver.
