Is Drew Brees in the Top 5 of All Time QBs?
I can't believe some people. What do you want from NBC Sports anyway.
The guy on the right opinion stinks. We all have watched Drew Brees over the years. What is your opinion? I posted my response in the comments and yes that is a picture of me from 10 years ago. LOL My Comments... :o Having watched every game Drew Brees has played as a Saint, I post this. Both of you make great points, but consider this... for too many years Drew played with a team that never had an All Pro WR or RB or a defense rated higher than #28. He carried the whole freaking team. He had 5 seasons passing for more than 5000 yards and 7 seasons with more than 4000 yards. He avoided the rush and make average WRs and TEs look great. Despite this the Saints are always a TOP 5 NFL offense. Why? Brees throws the BEST CATCHABLE PASSES EVERYWHERE ON THE FIELD. This has led to a 68.3% completion percentage with the Saints. And he did this all without the strongest arm or being tall enough by NFL standards or being able to run away from NFL pass rushers. Drew is past INCREDIBLE at EVERYTHING he does. HE IS JUST GREAT AT EVERYTHING THAT IS REQUIRED TO BE A GREAT NFL QB. If anything, this should make him even better than the other QBs with greater NFL player standards. Despite all of his perceived shortcomings, he will soon break and own every NFL record besides INTs. For years the Saints had an extremely bad defense rated between #28-#32. They didn't stop other teams running or passing games or force turnovers. They sucked on a grand scale. I never heard Drew Brees bit.ch or moan once or even saw it in his face once. He was never the problem but always was the solution. Every game he just showed up and inspired the whole team. This led to an outstanding career with 5 seasons passing for over 5000 and 7 over 4000 yards... an NFL record that should last for years. Had Drew had a defense rated under #15 which forced some turnovers he would have been in the Superbowl many times just like Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Jim Kelly :hallucinate: and John Elway. While this topic will always be debated and a personal opinion, I think both Drew Brees and Tom Brady are tied as the two best QBs to ever play in the NFL and Brady gets the nod because of his Superbowl titles. Sorry Joe Montana... You were the best... were. Peyton Manning? GTFOH I'm not sure if he should be in the top 5. And what about Terry Bradshaw... he has carried Fox NFL for years and won 4 Superbowls too! Love you Terry. :) LOL |

JP's Top 10 All-Time NFL Passers, Quarterbacks
1 - Dan Marino 2 - Peyton Manning 3 - Drew Brees 4 - Brett Favre 5 - Tom Brady 6 - Joe Montana 7 - John Elway 8 - Steve Young 9 - Warren Moon 10 - Dan Fouts Update: Brees moves ahead of Manning with another Superbowl as he would have essentially taken two (2) different teams to the Superbowl (not counting the punter)... |

I'm going to take the LeBron/Jordan copout on this argument and defer answering until Brees is retired.

Re: Is Drew Brees in the Top 5 of All Time QBs?
Aikman
Elway The two guys I feel are most overrated that get consistently put on top QB lists. They were surrounded by talent on both sides for most of their career. Manning Montana Brady Brees Favre I give Manning the nod now because of the success with multiple teams and different coaching staffs |

The top two are Montana and Brees! "Nuff' said"!

Re: Is Drew Brees in the Top 5 of All Time QBs?
I really find it hard to compare during eras and don't think it is fair. And it seems fans always find a way to insert team statistics into a discussion about a single player. Super Bowls and team wins are team statistics. Passing yards, touchdowns, etc. are individual statistics. Marv Fleming has 4 Super Bowl rings and I don't think anyone considers him one of the all time greats at TE. QB's who can't sniff the jocks of the great QB's like Dilfer, Hostetler, and Brad Johnson all have Super Bowl rings and it doesn't change my opinion of their abilities as a QB. Some mediocre players get the benefit of having been a part of great teams and win Super Bowlsand some great players have the detriment of being part of mediocre teams ( Marino for example) and never get Super Bowls. Super Bowl wins rank outside my personal opinion factors when I think of the greatness of a player.
With that said, in this current era of football Brees clearly ranks in the top 5 best QB since 2000 along with Brady, Manning and Rodgers. I think the 80's-90's is a different era and a different game and likewise with the decades and generations of QB's before that. It's not fair to compare between these as it was a different game all around and the comparisons do not translate to me. And frankly there just doesn't need to be opinionated lists like this when pretty much every name that can or will be mentioned is just damn great in their own regard. |

Jim Kelly outside the top 10?

Re: Is Drew Brees in the Top 5 of All Time QBs?
Leaving Brees off of any list chaps my butt. He own's about every personal passing record in the books. By the time he retires, he will own them all.. Under Brees, the Saint's have consistently been a top 5 offense, even when they had no running game to speak of.
The only reason he doesn't have 3 or 4 rings is because he doesn't play defense. If he did, they would just figure out some other way of keeping him off of their lists. |
Re: Is Drew Brees in the Top 5 of All Time QBs?
I'm of the opinion that anyone that leaves Brees out of the top 5 either brain damage, has a bias against a small market, or has a bias against Brees. I've heard some extremely ridiculous arguments: (ball has more zip on it coming out of other QBs hands; football is a team sport...and Brees doesn't make his team better; Brees doesn't have championships). It's like people just don't want to include him on the list for some unknown reason. They'll say that Brees shouldn't be on the list cause he has only 1 Superbowl, but then they'll say that Marino should be on the list. Then when it is brought up that Marino doesn't have a superbowl, they'll change the entire frame of their argument to something else. They don't want to admit that Brees is great and they have no logical reason why.
