Well you are posting stats to only fuel your side of the story... don't try to be so bias on this. Generate revenue and economy impact are just terms you are using to seperate what the Saints mean to the economy of the state. You have to take into account what the Saints means to every aspect of the economy in order to account for generated revenue. Taxes on Hotels, food, fuel, salaries, vendors, parking, all of it 'generates revenue'. Losing the team will make a economical impact, not only for the state but for the small buisnessman.
I am not saying the team leaving will cripple the state, I don't think anyone is saying that at all but there will be buisness that will go out of buiness, there will be jobs lost and there will be money lost, it will be an impact on the economy if they move, there is no way you can say there will not be. |

However, I have said that the State should negotiate and should find a way for the Saints to stay. They are important to the State, and Blanco should ensure that they stick around. That said, I think that her last proposal is more than fair. Additionally, she is continuing to try and talk out their differences. It's Benson whose taking his $15 million ball and going home. |
Hey who dat. I am not a economist, and to not have precise figures at this time, but I will do some research to try to understand the matter further. Will you either post your data that your citing or send it to me in an e mail, where the saints get 700+million and about their economic impact, and revenue generation. I would like to see the actual numbers. Thanks.

I can't do it right this moment, but I will try to get it up tonight. You might try starting by looking at this thread:
http://www.blackandgold.net/site/ind...ewtopic&t=9531 It's got a lot of information in it and there are links to sources where I got a lot of my info as well. Some relevant numbers: $400 Million - the amount that one economic impact study conducted by a professor of economics at UNO claimed that the Saints had on the local economy each year. $737 Million - the total amount that the deal Gov. Blanco offered to the Saints could be worth. $401 Million is guaranteed in direct payments (at a rate of $9 million a year if memory serves) and $174 million ear-marked for Super Dome renovations. There are escalator clauses that would allow the Saints to make up to $737 million if they performed well. $157 Million - the Saints REVENUES in 2004, according to Forbes. $29.6 & $43.1 Million - the Saints' Operating Income figures in 2002 and 2003, according to Forbes. That ranked them 6th and 8th in the league respectively. $113 Million - the average revenue of a single Costco store per year. This adds perspective to let you know the type of money we're talking about when it comes to the Saints. Football is big business, definitely, but it's nowhere near what true national/multinational corporations do on a year. $1.2 Billion - the amount Benson claims someone offered him for his team. That would amount to the largest sale price of an NFL franchise ever. In fact, it's 50% larger than the blockbuster $800 million that Dan Snyder bought the Redskins for. It's also about twice the reported value of the team, which is roughly the same as the Vikings - who are selling for $625 million. That's off the top of my head. I hope this helps. |
