Seems to me that the video is mislabeled. Brees in 2001 certainly isn't Brees today. There's 17 years worth of experience and committment between those two. Very few QBs show HOF level greatness as a rookie. Brady sat until the nearly the end of the season. Rodgers sat for 4 years. P. Manning was thrown to the wolves and threw like 28 interceptions.

As Wiley said, they were in win now mode and didn't have time for a rookie to catch up. Nothing wrong with that assessment at the time.
