Demario Davis is continuing his strong work against the run and flourishing in New Orleans

Linebacker Demario Davis, who had stints with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns before landing a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, currently owns the highest run defense grade among all NFL linebackers.

Davis’ ability to stop the run has been on display all season long, as the veteran has amassed 15 run stops on the season. The Arkansas State alumnus has added a much-needed presence on the Saints’ front seven, and the team’s sixth-ranked team run defense unit (86.3) is due in large part to Davis’ effort in the center of the defense.

Davis’ ability to stop the run can be seen above. He quickly diagnosed the play and filled the gap. He easily brushed by Los Angeles Rams’ center John Sullivan and brought Todd Gurley down for a loss.

Davis’ run stopping ability shouldn’t come as a surprise, however, as the former Jets linebacker finished with at least 20 run stops every season from 2013 to 2017, and notably finished the 2017 campaign with a staggering 40 run stops, the second-most among linebackers that year. Since he entered the league in 2013, Davis has amassed 172 defensive stops against the run, which is the 11th-most among linebackers in that span.

Although Davis’ run-stopping ability is his most prominent, this play against the Baltimore Ravens shows how he can affect the game in various ways.

Demario Davis was an awesome FA acquisition by the Saints.

Fearless leader who can run sideline to sideline and arrives with bad intentions.

I've been saying that he is the best linebacker we've had in a while. In fact this is the best linebacking corps including back ups we've had since the dome patrol,

Wish signing Coleman would work 1/2 as well.
At some point during this regular season I completely forgot we signed him until the end of Sunday’s game.

Dude me too!! Someone brought up the name "Coleman" on chat last week. I asked, "who the **** is Coleman?" I was serious! I forgot that they signed Kurt Coleman. I was banging my head trying to figure out who Coleman was on the defense. Lol

I like this dude from day one. He has got to be the fastest lb we’ve had in a while. The Redskins game when hardee picked smith off davis was running with him stride for stride blocking for him. I told my mom damn that dude is quick.

I guess hindsight is 20/20 (Kurt Coleman signing), however it's looking like the Honey Badger may have been the better choice. As it turns out, the market was soft at the position.

If there was anyone who knew Coleman, it's Sean Payton. I mean he was really good the last few years in Carolina. Saints hit on a few free agents, however just not at the safety position.

At least this dude isn't Jairus Byrd or a penalty magnet on the back end.

Look at it this way. Sean may have been less interested in what Coleman could do and more about what he knew. Nothing like a bit of legal industrial espionage...
